Shame

Quote:
Shame is an erotic drama film co-written and directed by Steve McQueen. The film stars Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. Shame was co-produced by Film4 and See-Saw Films (which produced The King's Speech). Shame's explicit sexual scenes resulted in this film being rated NC-17 in the United States.

Fox Searchlight Pictures paid around $400,000 to acquire the United States distribution rights of Shame, and they will release this film in limited theatrical release in the United States on December 2, 2011.

Post Re: Shame
Shame is such a gloriously made film. First of all, there is no way in hell this movie could of been edited down to an R without it losing basically all its drive. Michael Fassbender is amazing in this and he does a great job showing a man who falls to some of his lowest points due to his unnatural sex addiction. Carey Mulligan also pulls in a very strong supporting role and her interactions with Fassbender throughout the movie are quite gripping and at times quite frightening. The last 20 or so minutes of the film is some very intense stuff and the way it is all edited and shown on screen is wonderful. We have a really good race going here for Best Actor as Fassbender is another great contender. Now I need to go and watch Steve McQueen's Hunger after watching this great piece. ****

A couple of the first few scenes is him walking around the apartment naked with dick in clear view. Then there are some other times where he'll finish fucking a chick and you'll see his dick for a few seconds.

 :P

It's really surprising Carey Mulligan would go full-frontal for a movie. I think it's cool of her, just surprising.

You associate the British with frequent nudity and open sexuality?

Review: http://www.worldofkj.com/article.php?i=531

In addition to Hunger, obviously, this movie reminded me a lot of Leaving Las Vegas.

Fassbender and Mulligan obviously need to be nominated, but this should also be a top contender in other categories, such as Best Director and Best Cinematography.

Wow, I'm surprised you gave it an A+. I'm even surprised it's currently Gun's #1 of the year. I'm not sure I'd love it THAT much, but do think I'd give it at least an 8/10.

Remember the time when movies were much more open to nudity. Now a scaled-back nude scene can already start so much "controversies" in the voyeuristic eye.

The rating here is completely warranted. It couldn't have been rated anything else. But the film isn't glorifying it at all and is often incredibly difficult to watch, which is why the controversy with theater chains such as Cinemark refusing to show it is ultimately quite stupid.

Post Re: Shame
It is deserved within the confines of the MPAA. There is definitely enough nudity and sex here to warrant their NC-17, whereas it was ridiculous they tried to give one to Blue Valentine.

However, you do have to question a group which feels Shame, no matter how many times you see Michael Fassbender's enormous penis, is deserving of a harsher grade than, say, Hostel.

And honestly whether or not it's difficult to watch shouldn't factor into whether a theatre chain shows it. It shouldn't even go so far. This would suggest a drama slapped with an NC-17 where sex is portrayed as positive and pleasurable doesn't have a place in mainstream theatres.

Also, the thing about this movie is while it is an art film, I can totally see it clicking with a certain demographic in the same way movies like Requiem for a Dream and American Psycho did. It isn't Sleeping Beauty or something :P
