 One Day
One Day Quote: One Day is a film directed by Lone Scherfig. It was adapted by David Nicholls from his 2009 novel of the same name. It stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess. Focus Features, which holds worldwide distribution rights (excluding UK free-TV, which is to be held by Film4), released the film theatrically in August 2011.

 Re: One Day
I wouldn't really say it's bad, it's just so meh. It could have been a really cute movie but it just never really went anywhere. Anne Hathaway needs to stop being British in movies. She can't do it. Her accent is so on and off it's annoying. Jim Sturgess was really good though. The ending was awful too, that's what really ruined the movie for me. It was not needed at all. They just wanted something to bring you to tears and really wasn't sad.
5/10

 Re: One Day
One Day is tedious claptrap. The intrinsically intriguing story structure is frittered away in it's naturalistic insistence on portraying the way life really works. Big mistake. I could have easily seen a more formal quixotic structure imposed upon this story, like the retro classic of the genre: Same Time, Next Year. Anne Hathaway, of course, was great (except for that damn British accent) - - but the dude's a lightweight - - she deserves a much meatier co-star. 1 out of 5.

It's the funniest movie of the year.

 Re: One Day
It was alright. I thought the last half hour was the most interesting despite going into Nicholas Sparks territory. I didn't think catching up with these characters one day every year worked that well. I thought Anne and Jim gave it their best. Didn't even have a problem with her accent like a lot of people seem to. Not unwatchable, but throughout I kept thinking what a disappointing follow-up to An Education this was for Lone Scherfig.

 Re: One Day
Even though this movie is very flawed, it's also underrated. There's definitely a "pile on!" vibe going around amongst critics and on the Internet. Because it's a prestigious, gooey romantic drama which happened to not turn out all too well. If this movie's quality-to-flaws ratio was transposed to an action or horror film, there wouldn't be nearly as toxic an air about it. Reports of critics screenings devolving into fits of hyena laughter are absurd. There's nothing here to warrant it.

Well, I suppose I agree - - it wasn't laughable. One Day was honestly bad.

 Re: One Day
I just couldn't believe the entire time that Hathaway and Sturgess as having feelings for each other. They did not play off each other that well. Also, while the concept is interesting, I began using it as a way to figure out how much of the film was left. Waste of a cast. Shame. *
