I hope this goes wide release so I have a chance of seeing this in theaters.

Forget Cowboys & Aliens this summer, because as one character in Attack the Block exclaims: "We got...'Moses vs. The Aliens'" !!!

I so dug the faux urban skate gangsta stylin' laid over the sweetly underplayed creature feature. Plus, it's a flat out cult comedy classic. Trust me, you're gonna be hearin' quotes from this one for well into the 2030's and beyond.

What a shame the NA distribution got scuttled for Attack The Block after the London riots this summer - - I had hoped to see it a second time, but it was pulled from my theatre after just one week.

It's a lot of fun, and there are some interesting sociocultural ideas at play (the aliens are super black; Moses is only saved by clinging desperately to the Union Jack). But it never really takes off like you expect it to, and it really doesn't earn its ending. As good as Boyega is, Moses ain't much of a hero.

Still, it's brutally authentic and fully entertaining. You could do a lot worse, especially as far as recent alien invasion flicks go.

I have it a B. It's actually quite a fun film to watch.

Attack of the Block is a good twist on the alien film genre putting the most unlikely people to become the heroes of the day and saving those around them. Everything is very fast paced and once the short runtime ends you wish there would have been a little more. All the actors do there parts as good as the character asks for and overall just a good bit of fun. ***

Enjoyed it and its short running time. Had a bit of trouble understanding some of the dialogue. Was also happy that some of the kids died, not because I hated the characters, but because kids rarely die in film.

British in idea and execution, but very dry on humor, which is very non-British and more of an American trade.

This is...all right? I appreciate its brevity, flashes of humor, and playful, low-tech effects (vs., say, the leaden, humorless Battle: Los Angeles), but it didn't blow me away in any way. It isn't hilarious. It is exciting, but never overtly so, never enthralling. And the social commentary is a bit much, isn't it?

Ha. I've had this sitting around since September and finally watched it today. That's kind of funny. Maybe we were watching it at the same exact time in different parts of the world.

But yes, I pretty much agree. It was entertaining enough but it never ascended to a Shaun of the Dead or even--on a more realistic note--Severance level of amusement. Honestly, I was hoping those two young wannabes (Props and Mayhem, I believe) would get eaten.

I liked the aliens, though. They were interesting.

Attack the Block

Well, first things first, it wasn't funny. The black people in the cast were irritating; that whole urban thug culture language is grating, and I could only put up with half of the movie before it got tiresome (especially the dialogue). Nick Frost was good, and the granny that took in the white girl after she was mugged; she was the funniest one in the movie (and she was only in it for about 90 secs).

The aliens seemed kind of incompetent, the music was crap, and the hero ending for a gang of muggers was not the kind of resolve I was looking for. They should have all died. They are just pieces of scum. The effects were bad, but due to clever camera work, effects weren't needed much because they didn't allow us to see much.

I suppose it passed the time.
