Re: The Art of Getting By
I'm seeing this today and despite reviews, I still think I'll at least enjoy it. It reminds me of the movie Down to You with Julia Stiles that everyone hated but I really enjoyed.

Re: The Art of Getting By
Randomly watched it yesterday...
The first half hour or so is laugh out loud bad. As the movie goes on it becomes tolerable though. Freddie Highmore was pretty good, despite his character. Emma Roberts was kind of bad, and I like her. It's definitely not worth seeing in the theater but I didn't think it was all bad.

Re: The Art of Getting By
Is it awful? No, it's exactly what it looks like and that's what's disappointing. It wants to be a Noah Baumbach movie; an intellectual look at a precious yet pretentious life. It fails. It's pusedo-intellectual bullshit that you seen hundreds of times before. The film's only saving graces are the performances.

Re: The Art of Getting By
This was a very generic and by-the-numbers indie. Nothing fresh about it. Not an ounce of the charm of (500) Days of Summer, which you know it was hoping to emulate.

Re: The Art of Getting By
Highmore and Roberts work well together and it has some charming moments, but the film never understands what kind of film it wants to be. It also plays things a bit too safe even for its genre. **
