 The Rocky Horror Picture Show
The Rocky Horror Picture Show Quote: The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the 1975 film adaptation of the British rock musical stageplay, The Rocky Horror Show, written by Richard O'Brien. The film is a parody of B-movie, science fiction and horror films of the late 1940s through early 1970s. Director Jim Sharman collaborated on the screenplay with O'Brien, who wrote both the book and lyrics for the stage. The film introduces Tim Curry and features Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick along with cast members from the original Kings Road production presented at the Royal Court Theatre, London, in 1973.
Still in limited release 36 years after its premiere, it has the longest-running theatrical release in film history. It gained notoriety as a midnight movie in 1977 when audiences began participating with the film in theatres. Rocky Horror is the first film from a major Hollywood studio to be in the midnight movie market. The motion picture has a large international following and is one of the most well known and financially successful midnight movies of all time. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

Definitley the weirdest movie I've ever seen. It has zero plot, and I think Barry Bostwick was overacting on purpose. Very strange, and very gay. I mean seriously Tim Curry had some weird sex scenes with both Sarandon and Bostwick. However, the movie also had Sarandon in her bra for about oh the entire movie, Meat Loaf, and catchy tunes. Definitley gay though.

Haha. I love this movie.
If you have never seen the "live" version of it...trust me, you have to go. Seriously some of the most fun I've had at a movie theater in years.

Don't even think about watching this one on DVD -- it is only to be seen at the theatre with the audience in the role of the Greek Chorus...
So awesome that I can't even rate it on my scale - it goes beyond moviedom.

They've been playng this movie at a theatre here in St.Louis for over 20 years now every weekend.. They used to show it at the VARSITY Theatre since the 80's and when they tore the theatre down to make way for development, they moved it to the HI-POINTE Theatre up the street which is where it now remains.. People come dressed up as the characters and act out the movie during the movie and throw stuff at the screen.. No shi*.. A Cult Classic this movie has become..

Jeff, I could have sworn you saying for ages that you refused to see this. Glad you did. We have a RHPS showing every weekend at the theater where I work(ed for now) so I've seen it several times.

I went with four friends, who were in full costume as Frank-n-Furter, Magenta, Rocky and Riff-Raff. It was fantastic, I'll actually post some pictures when I get them back.

I saw the live version last weekend, so I can't really judge this as a film. I'm sure if I watched it on DVD, I wouldn't like it that much, but seeing it in an old, classy theatre with hundreds of other people dressed up, yelling stuff out and throwing stuff at the screen was fantastic. Definitely a movie that needs to be seen with a lot of people. The movie itself is nonsensical and absolutely hilarious, though the end tails off a bit. The beginning, all the way up to when Dr. Scott enters, is classic stuff. The dinner scene and final musical numbers don't quite watch up. As I said, I can't really judge it, but I'd rate the experience higher than the movie itself.

Easily one of my favorite movies ever, in my top 5.

Indeed.
It's so much fun.... so scandalous.... everyone should see it in theaters ONLY. You'll either be grossly offended or think it's the greatest time ever.... depends, I guess.
Watching it with a crowd and a crew is nothing like watching it at home.

I love that everyone in the audience knows exactly what to yell at each point in the movie.

I thought I had written something for this.
Well, I'll be brief. It deserves it cult status, and I saw it here at home on DVD!

Re: The Rocky Horror Picture Show
Bump, as I just watched it again this weekend.
It's really hard to judge and grade a film like this, not only because the version I saw is a midnight showing with people in costumes, acting out the film, yelling stuff out at every moment of silence (and occasionally during the dialogue), and throwing stuff at the screen, but also because the film is so bizarre. The plot is a strange mish-mash of horror, sci-fi, comedy, and gay musical, and it doesn't always fit together. In particular, the alien stuff at the end has always been one step too far for me. The songs are good for the most part, except for the ones at the end. So really, I like everything about this film up until about the dinner scene, and then it's all downhill from there. But the stuff leading up to that is wildly imaginative, brilliantly hilarious, and a complete riot. But I've still never watched the whole thing at home.

7/10 -> B-
I can see how this movie can get better with each new viewing. Because this was my first time ever I watched it and it did feel like too much of everything was put into it. The songs are pretty catchy though.
