Catch Me If You Can
Catch Me If You CanQuote: Catch Me If You Can is a 2002 American biographical comedy-drama film based on the life of Frank Abagnale Jr., who, before his 19th birthday, successfully conned millions of dollars by posing as a Pan American World Airways pilot, a Georgia doctor and Louisiana attorney and parish prosecutor. His primary crime was cheque fraud; he became so skillful that the FBI eventually turned to him for help in catching other check forgers. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg, which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Abagnale and Tom Hanks as Hanratty as well as Christopher Walken, Amy Adams, Martin Sheen, and Nathalie Baye.
Development for the film started as far back as 1980, but development did not progress until 1997, when the film rights to Abagnale's book were purchased by Spielberg's DreamWorks. Filmmakers such as David Fincher, Gore Verbinski, Lasse Hallström, Miloš Forman and Cameron Crowe had all been involved in the director's position before Spielberg, originally involved as producer, decided to become the film's director. He dropped out of Big Fish and Memoirs of a Geisha due to his commitment to Catch Me If You Can, and filming took place from February to May 2002. The film received financial and critical success, and the real Abagnale greeted the film positively. A fun movie with some fine performances from Hanks and DiCaprio. B

A bit overrated, still good though. Both leads are good, so are the supporting cast but I just thought overall the film was weak and was missing something.

A very nice surprise. From the retro opening titles to the great performances by Dicaprio, Hanks, and Walken, I enjoyed more than I thought I would. Sometimes truth really is stranger than fiction. I grade it an A-.

Everyone seems to think it was overrated, but I loved it. Walken, DiCaprio, and Hanks all had great performances and it was just one of those movies that I love to watch over. I'd give it an A/A-.

Ditto everyone. Nothing amazing. Nothing life-changing. Nothing all that moving or emotional. It is a very enjoyable flick....probably one of the most rewatchable in recent years. I reccomend it to everyone. DiCaprio shows off some good acting, and Hanks is as good as ever. Great opening with John William's little bit of composing genius.

It was a nice flick, but it feels like Spielberg used this film to relax a bit. The John Williams score was lovely as was the story, but it felt a little too fluffy overall. (B-)

The year 2002 was a good one for Spielberg fans. He didn't quite deliver two masterpieces, but still two pretty good movies on their own, Minority Report and Catch me if you can. Both were entertaining and well-made, though entirely different in their subjects and their mood. I have to admit that I generally dislike DiCaprio, but he really delivered a good performance in this one, his best to date, in my opinion. He was good in the same year in Gangs of New York, but he truly shined in this one and wasn't even any worse than Tom Hanks.
I found Christopher Walken's performance to be a bit overrated. He wasn't his usual "bad 'n tough guy", but I still didn't see much special about him in it.
The soundtrack was delicious and the Spielberg was on autopilot directing this one. All in all, this is light dramedy fun that won't be remembered for long and probably shouldn't be, but that is a good way to spend two hours.

Overrated. This was a movie that I bought without seeing purely because of the raves at BOM, and it's quality didn't justify those raves. It was good, just not masterpiece theater.

Enjoyable and entertaining, but drags on a bit too long and never really establishes how Abagnale was able to do all this. He just sorta... does. There's a few scenes of him learning some stuff, but nothing that really shows how he becomes one of the top con men in American history. Still, it's a fun flick with great performances and memorable scenes.

It's probably the best film Speilberg ever made that doesnt quite feel like a Speilberg film. You'd be like he directed that? But I loved this movie A one of my favs of 2002. Minority Report was very good as well though, so its a toss up.
