Quote:
Just Go With It is a 2011 romantic comedy film directed by Dennis Dugan, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston. The film was released on February 11, 2011. The film is based on the 1969 film Cactus Flower, which was adapted from an earlier Broadway stage play written by Abe Burrows, which in turn was based upon the French play Fleur de cactus.

Post Re: Just Go With It
Just Go With It reminds us that Adam Sandler still can have a strong sense of comedy as long as the material is right. Whereas in some of his recent comedies like Grown Ups or You Don't Mess With the Zohan, he tries too hard to be funny. In Just Go With It though he acts natural while still giving some glimpses of his older, yet good goofy antics. The story goes everywhere and the results do end up going the usual way, but some moments are very, very funny. Jennifer Aniston doesn't stick with her usual off manner that seems to have been building up in her past films. Nick Swardson gets funnier and funnier as the film goes on. The kids here, unlike the ones in say Grown Ups, aren't dumbed down by toilet humor and are actually enjoyable. Then there is Brooklyn Decker who stays very attractive while at the same time can do some decent acting. She isn't trying at like say Megan Fox did in the Transformers films. The film goes a bit too dramatic in the last third and the ending drags a lot. Outside of that though, this film is more of where Adam Sandler should be going in his career even if he doesn't do another Funny People type film. ***

I thought it was decent but it was also incredibly overlong. So much so it kind of ruined the movie as a whole. I really loved Jennifer Aniston in this, she was too adorable. Seriously, that girl can do no wrong. She's one of my favorite working actresses today. Adam Sandler does his usual thing and I had no idea that Nicole Kidman was in this. :P She was fun, the hula bit was cute. One big problem about this was that I thought it was pretty mean spirited, which is something I rarely say and I don't believe I've ever said about a Sandler comedy. Everything that came out of his mouth through most of the movie was mean, not funny. Still, it was cute and it's worth a rent.

6/10

Perhaps surprisingly enough, the pairing of Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Just Go With It genuinely works. Sandler is at his more toned-down comic persona (and this film is miles better than his previous, Grown Ups), and Aniston hasn't been this appealing in a film (other than Marley & Me) for years. Brooklyn Decker can't really act but she looks good in a bikini and is appropriately sweet, while Nicole Kidman is on hand for a random but entertaining small role (paired with Dave Matthews!). The Hawaii setting is jubilant and recalls Sandler's 50 First Dates, which was also quite entertaining. Considering that, in my eyes, Sandler and Aniston's last two outings were the worst movies of 2010, this is a huge step up and is an actually entertaining romantic comedy. B

I really hate Jennifer Aniston in anything other than friends, she's just annoying.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

Post Re: Just Go With It
It starts off really poorly, with the appearance of Kevin Nealon being the film's rock bottom, but then it gets better. Yes the film is another one of those romantic comedies where the main problem at hand could be settled with a nice three minute conversation, and yes I found it odd that we're supposed to buy Decker going out with Sandler once (the night they meet), is then surrounded by him and his fake family with almost no alone time, yet is madly in love with him and wants to marry him while they're all in Hawaii (what's especially odd about this is that film only seems to take place over the course of a week, week and a half at most), but it's funny enough where the problems can be mostly forgiven. Excluding Funny People, it's Sandler's best film since Click and I think that it's mostly due to Dugan and Sandler beginning to realize that less is more. Sandler and Nick Swardson are the only two comedians for the most of the film, so it's not overloaded like Grown-Ups, Zohan, and Chuck & Larry which were filled with many funny people doing very unfunny things. Nick Swardson especially stands out. It's not a great comedic performance or anything, but at least you don't have six other guys trying to outdo one another. Swardson and Sandler are decent together.

Aniston and Sandler's chemistry is another big reason why the film works. They play decently off one another. Oh, and she's actually age appropriate to Sandler. It's not so much of a stretch to see these two together like it was to see him with Salma Hayek, Keri Russell, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, Paz Vega, and oh, Brooklyn Decker. Which brings me back to the film's problems. You never buy Sandler's relationship with Decker, Sandler and Dugan are still trying appeal to the 12 year old that's inside Sandler's core audience (who is now at a minimum, over 18) with stupid physical gags (Nealon, one boob lady, ball shot, a sheep, anything involving Dave Matthews), and though it runs a healthy 106 minutes it wraps up too quickly. Again, the impromptu marriage (which we never see because why bother to show how
Spoiler: show
Sandler ends his relationship with Decker, it's not an integral part of plot...
) makes no sense.

Yet despite the film's many problems, I laughed which is something I haven't done enough of at Sandler's most recent comedies.

Post Re: Just Go With It
It delivers pretty much exactly what is expected. I've always stood by the fact that Sandler is only tolerable as an actor when he has good co-stars, which is why I avoided a few of his past entries (like Grown Ups, worst cast ever? Possibly). Jennifer Aniston is game though, and the two have a very believable chemistry that makes this film fun and enjoyable despite its predictability. Aniston is great and incredibly appealing, Sandler and Nick Swardson are both decent and Nicole Kidman is hilarious and steals several scenes. The biggest problem here is certainly Brooklyn Decker - not necessarily her performance but the way the character is written. Her character is easily one of the most moronic and poorly written characters I've ever seen in a romantic comedy and several of her actions don't make any sense. Still, if you take it for what it was, it's an enjoyable, better-than-average Sandler vehicle that's decently funny and gets the job done. B

Just Go With It is at every risk of being a set-em-up and knock-em-down Adam Sandler comedy, but ends up falling into a wonky kind of rhythm that cements the romance half of this ROM-COM with believable chemistry.

By about the halfway mark I had pretty much fallen in love with Just Go For It. The breadth of female leads, the sidekick, the kids all added just the right touch of zaniness and charm to the proceedings and sent it into classic screwball comedy territory!

- What a treat to see Nicole Kidman doing comedy again!
- Fear not! This is one of the good Jennifer Anniston performances (eg: Along Came Polly).
- Brooklyn Decker acquits herself surprisingly well considering the bikini walk-on this could have been.
- Nick Swardson clearly had fun with Dolph - - like his Shee-P-R interlude.
- And speaking of bikini walk-ons - - that bikini walk-off at the waterfall between Brooklyn and Jennifer was just plain hot!
- Bailee Madison is a comedy prodigy.
- The script is pleasantly sharp and charming. A difficult blend.

Yep, finally - - a great 2011 movie!

Just Go For It - - all hail the conquering ROM-COM hero!

18 out of 5.

(One complaint - - the sound - - the dialogue was mixed way too low! The theatre I saw it in is usually technically spot-on, but it could have been a one-off incident? Did anyone else notice the sound? I take great sound for granted nowadays.)

B-, one of the weaker Sandler comedies. The females (Aniston and Kidman) just aren't very funny and they have too much screentime compared to the funnier guys.

Agree about the sound, I keep on hearing the booms and bangs of next door's theaters over this movie's dialogue.

Was good except for some stupid talk at the 2 eating scenes. Guess Sandler wanted to keep in the stupid humor.

and on Jen Aniston....she was great ... very good when she doesn't have to carry the movie and just is a nice add on.

Cute and hilarious. One of Sandler's best comedies, IMO. Aniston was great and really charming. Bailee Madison was very funny. She has to be one of my favorite child actors. I though Nick Swardson had some great moments, especially the scene at dinner where he was talking about what he did for a living. I was dying of laughter. Nicole Kidman was fun in a small role.

Overall, a pleasant surprise.

Salma Hayek is actually close to his age. But yeah, having Hayek as his wife in Grown Ups was a mismatch. Aniston is definitely a proper match for him. I hope they do another movie together, one that better showcases their chemistry.

I still don't know why any hot female would go for any of his characters :P. He's so unappealing. In real life it's more understandable because he's famous and some seem to think he's funny ;).

In long term relationships, the value of love is severely overrated and the value of a sense of humor is tragically underrated.

1. You're an idiot.
2. Brooklyn Decker is probably the best looking woman in the world. And made this movie worth the price of admission.

The movie could've been better. Started off REAL shaky. Got much better as it went along though. B-

FYI, He was a rich doctor in this...think he was OK.

and on the plot, should have just said he carried the ring since he got left at the altar....that would have solved the problem...but then no movie...and no Jen.

Anyone think that Jen was basically playing her Friends role from later seasons - when she was alittle more confident and sarcastit.

In other words, any character she's ever played since the later seasons of Friends?

Nope, this was one of the closest....especially it was one that had no action in the movie.

She just played the Friends role.
