The Milk of Sorrow (Spanish: La Teta Asustada) is a 2009 film by Peruvian director Claudia Llosa and co-produced by Peru and Spain. The film stars Magaly Solier, and addresses the fears of abused women during Peru's recent history. It won the 2009 Golden Bear award and FIPRESCI prize at the Berlin International Film Festival, as well as the award for best movie in the 24 Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara in Mexico. It was nominated for the 82nd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Picture.

6/10 -> C Besides inane songs, the film doesn't really do a great job of presenting why there's a fear that's transferred from the mother to the daughter. As a viewer you just have to go with it and that's it. There's nothing to suggest that anyone's going to rape or hurt the poor girl. And while everyone else (including her whole family) seem to live a completely normal life, she's stuck in some kind of a separate reality where she's afraid of everything.
For that reason I really never connected with any of the film's emotional aspects. I just didn't care about anything much.
It's filmed good, the acting is fine. But the potato didn't really grow here...
