It's good! Judge is in fine form, filling the margins with the tight, wry observations you'd hope for. I especially liked the completely surprising treatment he ultimately gives the film's two major female characters. At first it seems like he's going to treat them regressively, and with contempt. But this isn't the case. Indeed, the film surprised me a couple of times; this is always nice.

After the completely unwatchable Idiocracy I walked into this with caution, but it was a pleasure.

This is a movie that anyone who has yet to celebrate their twentieth anniversary is want to get. I'm sayin' ya simply won't "get" (ie: understand) the writing in Extract until you're much, much more experienced (...unless you're one of those humans that doesn't believe that experience counts for anything...)

Yep, this is one telling tale o' terpitude.

Please add your review upon your achieval of the above mentioned experiential qualification (please note date of review within it's text so that it's provenance may survive it's dissemination). {Note: I'll resume monitoring this thread in the year 2018.}

Mike Judge has shown himself to be a strong comedic director in his past hits Office Space and Idiocracy. While they both may not have hit the big bucks, they are both original and some of the better comedies currently especially with Office Space. Extract can be added to Judge's strong comedic resume. Jason Bateman does a great job in the role as Joel, the owner of his own extract plant. Mila Kunis brings enough joy to the screen as the sneaky and misfit Cindy though her character can be put to the side of other strong performances especially from J.K. Simmons, Clifton Collins Jr, and David Koechner. The person who steals the whole show though is Ben Affleck as bartender Dean. He's close to unrecgonizable first of all with the addition of a full beard and much longer hair but he also gives some of the biggest comedic lines and story to the film and makes it that much more enjoyable. While there are two different storylines going on in the film, they work out well and wrap up very nicely (even if there in some odd circumstances). The entire plot is rich and it can be added to the list of great comedies this year. Hopefully Extract will find a cult following on DVD. ***1/2

Hilarious, sweetly low-key comedy, filled to the brim with authentic, winning performances and memorable small moments. It may not out-right grab you by the balls the way, say, The Hangover did, but if you pay attention and give yourself over to it, you will definitely leave charmed and lifted. I loved it!

Y'know, I respect the way Mike Judge maneuvered the plot, and there were plenty of sly moments that made me smile and nod. I don't mind that Extract was low-key, and I think it's neat to have a rather sympathetic view of an entrepreneur. But when I finally walked out of the theater, I couldn't help but feeling I wouldn't have missed anything had I waited to see this on TV a few years down the road.

Maybe Bradley's right and I'm too wet in the ears to identify with the set-up. Or maybe seeing Beowulf again this morning (the unrated version makes SUCH a fucking difference. You won't believe they cut this into a PG-13!) meant that something this mellow was always going to seem slight. But man oh man, Extract was a straight C for me.

I thought it was very funny, very nice little film. Not great, but very good.

And Mila Kunis is GORGEOUS.

Solid B.

Decent stuff but not worth more than a rental.

Picked this up cautiously, hoping for a decent movie. But it turned out to be really, really good! It doesn't linger on the mind afterwards, but it never tries to. Just a fun, really enjoyable, really surprising comedy.

Grade: B+

It's no Office Space, but it's much better than the dreck known as Idiocracy. Not everything works, but most of it does and it's quite funny.

Not a laugh-out-loud funny movie, but I really enjoyed it. I didn't like how easily he forgave his wife for cheating on him, though, but the rest was fine. Perhaps I wanted more to happen as well. It all felt a little too easy. Mila Kunis is a hot little minx, but that will only get her so far, so she needs to start choosing more demanding roles. Bateman plays the same nice guy that he always plays. Affleck was pretty cool as the ballshit talking barman, and this entire film was his fault. Bateman shouldn't have employed Brad at his factory either. I dislike characters when they have pointless empathy for complete idiots who bring on trouble themselves. I liked how his wife let rip at the neighbour, but did he need to die? Didn't like that.
