 Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past Quote: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past is a 2009 American romantic comedy film whose plot is based loosely on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol. Mark Waters directed a script by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore. Filming spanned February 19, 2008 to July 2008 in Massachusetts with stars Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner and Emma Stone. The film was released on May 1, 2009.
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past features a wedding day and the day before, rather than the familiar Christmas and Christmas Eve from A Christmas Carol. The three ghosts share similar appearances with the original descriptions, and the movie shares the traditional plot points from the book.

I actually can't wait to see this, it looks pretty....romcommy, but it has such an intriguing premise and looks like tons o fun. Hope it lives up to its' potential.

Above Average romantic comedy which takes a shlocky, by the numbers Hollywood money making project and actually manages to make it redeemable by being tongue in cheek about the whole thing.
Matthew McConaughey is incredibly irritating, wooden and bland throughout. He literally plays one note, one character, and nothing else.
Jennifer Garner however, is the emotional foundation and gives her character a dimension of wit, charm and sweetness its hard to imagine another actress investing.
Emma Stone is cute and fun as usual, and Michael Douglas plays it thick - which only works half the time.
Basically, it works, but only thanks to the investment of a talented supporting cast to the dreadful McConaughey as they struggle to overcome a script which whilst providing them with snappy dialogue is also a little insulting and cruel.

 Re: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
It's pretty by the books, but as a few other chick-flicks this year (HJNTIY, COAS) it doesn't really hurt the movie. It's pretty cheesey, and follows the dickens story without adding a whole lot to it other than a love story that almost felt....unnecessary at parts. The fact that it all was spun around his ex-relationships was pretty intersting, but the fact that it all focused in on the one girl made it a little annoying, and cut the concept short. Despite all this, it's a pretty good flick, with above average acting, decent direction, and a surprisingly strong, if cliched script. The self deprication and personal satire of the whole thing really worked well "now we're going to have a big montage of all your loving moments with jenny." "hey, wake me up when an action sequence comes along" and the sexual humor, while sometimes arbitrary, also added something. Although I did hate the fact that every minor character in this movie was required to be a ridiculous slut, they were all from the same mold, which made the film even more cliched than it should have been, and rather obnoxious at some scenes. Overall it's not much more than 'just' a chick-flick, and isn't even better than a few from this year, but it is very entertaining, and quite enjoyable. 7/10

 Re: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
At last a movie where Matthew McConaughey's high level of smug is actually useful for his character. Still makes him an irritating git but at least its deliberate! Also feel like somebody starved Garner while this was filmed, her face was so gaunt like a famine victim it was truly distracting at points.
Its a passable rom com overall though and a perfectly acceptable way to kill 90 minutes, and I'll admit the piss take of the "what day is this" line made me laugh.

I actually really liked this very much, if I ignored McConagay. Lacey Chabert is the best here.

It was okay. Nothing really memorable. B. I don't think I'd watch it again.

I can't believe you guys actually liked this. I'm not usually very picky when it comes to romantic comedies but this was lame and laugh-free.

 Re: Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
It's a very generic romantic comedy with the usual McConaughey fare. It was a bit charming to have the Chrstmas Carol-esque plot to it but in the end nothing above and beyond the norm. **

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past
I'm a sucker for many things, three of which are; rom-coms, Matthew McConaughey, and Michael Douglas. This is a nice little film. An awesomely watchable character in Connor Mead, some little sexpots sprinkled throughout, and the ever-adorable Emma Stone. It's just a shame that Mannifer Garner is in this, and playing her usual whiter-than-white damsel that is the dream girl of the male protagonist.
