 Fired Up!
Fired Up! Quote: Fired Up! is a 2009 American teen comedy film directed by Will Gluck and written by Freedom Jones. The main plot revolves around two high school football players (portrayed by Eric Christian Olsen and Nicholas D'Agosto) who create a lie to attend cheerleading camp for the summer and get close to its female cheerleaders.

 Re: Fired Up!
I caught this film last night during a screening and unfortunately it wasn't even full.
I went in with low expectations because it didn't look that interesting or even funny to me and I was about to just forget the whole thing when the security screeners wanted to hold my iphone for the duration of the film. However, I had already bought food so I wasn't about to skip it.
Anway, the film stars Eric christian olsen and nick d'agosto. They have both been around for a long time but they seemed to really have fun with this movie. This film starts of slow with lots of quick edits and that was starting to bug me but when they finally start heading to the cheer camp the film hits a stride that doesn't seem to quit. The film is also full of stereotypes, cliches, cheap jokes, hokey humor, but it's bundled with laughs and has a couple of especially insane moments in the film. I had a lot of fun watching it and it was more entertaining than I thought it would be which is why I was kinda bummed it wasn't full occupancy.
I would highly recommend watching this with a full audience.

 Re: Fired Up!
For those who see it, was it homophobic? Two reviews on Rotten Tomatoes say it's homophobic and one says it's not.
It was the rampant homophobia, tossed in everywhere it didn't belong, that convinced me Fired Up! is just a hateful mess. - Katey Rich, CinemaBlend.com
As hard as this movie tries to 'bring it on', it probably should have left the cheerleading realm well enough alone ... one of the most blatantly sexist and homophobic comedies in some time. - Edward Douglas, ComingSoon.net
Fired Up delivers consistent laughs, and it treats its female characters (and even its gay ones) with enough dignity that you won't hate yourself in the morning. - Alonso Duralde, MSNBC

There are people like that in real life so what's the issue? So yeah, one character is extremely flaming, a couple characters are suggested as being gay or they are And it's no big deal and in my view I didn't see any type of bashing among the main characters.

 Re: Fired Up!
well, thing is if a flaming character is thrown in there for comedic relief and/or because that's just the way (straight) guys behave towards such a person, then the intention is what makes it homophobic.
I haven't seen the movie myself so I'm not commenting either way. I'm just saying that it really depends on the intention of and the extent to which the jokes are done.

 Re: Fired Up!
First of all, if a "flamer" is displayed as the only or main homosexual and are there for comedic effect, than, depending on the way it is displayed it is probably homophobic. Being a gay I personally hate over-exposure to the "flaming" people, because it derives the stereo types that we are all that annoying, ignorant, and stupid, and we're not. Second, i haven't seen this film and don't plan to so i won't really know if it is homophobic or not for sure I'll just have to listen to opinions. Third, I agree with Edward Douglas, or at least understand what he's saying, 95% of the time, so if he says its' homophobic I'll assume that's accurate.

Exactly. If they don't know how to behave, and feel OK offending others, they get their ass kicked, so they'll think next time before opening their rotten mouths.

If it was one character, I would agree. But having multiple characters in the film, playing people that are most likely gay anyway, is in no way homophobic.

 Re: Fired Up!
It doesn't matter how many gay people are in the movie, it's how they are portrayed.
Personally, i don't think making fun of stereotypes is actually offensive. Because stereotypes are stupid.

 Re: Fired Up!
This movie was actually quite enjoyable.
It had good characters and some very funny moments, especially all the Bring It On and cheerleader references. Worth a look.
Grade - B.

 Re: Fired Up!
We're reviewing! We're, we're reviewing!!! We're reviewing! We're, we're reviewing!!! We're reviewing!!!!!Fired Up! is not ashamed of it's PG rating - - it wears it like a badge. It's flatout triumph of bawdy innuendo! Non-stop snappy dialogue with a raunchy twist propels this latest entry in the cheerleader movie genre into old school teen comedy orbit. The direction adds a stylized punch to the proceedings, amping up the laughs. Each character is imbued with a wacky eccentricity that naturally displays itself at the most inopportune times. It sensibly doesn't dwell on the actual mechanics of cheerleading and gets on with the brilliant comic screenplay. And finally, in it's corny innocence, it reveals a streak of heart running through it's soul... My first perfect score of 2009: out of (Remember the names of the people involved in this one - - Will Gluck, Freedom Jones, Nicholas D'Agosto, Eric Christian Olsen, Sarah Roemer, Juliette Goglia, David Walton, John Michael Higgins - - tell me in ten years (02/24/2019) whether you recognize those names - - you'll be surprised!) We're submitting! We're, we're submitting!!! We're submitting! We're, we're submitting!!! We're submitting!!!!!

 Re: Fired Up!
Homophobic?!? No way! It's totally gay positive. There were some very, very naughty gay jokes in here, that I'm sure any fun-lovin' gay or lesbian would get a good raunchy laugh from. Fired Up! is probably more open-minded than 52.3% of it's own audience...

 Re: Fired Up!
These days people cry racism/homophobia/sexism/discrimination at everything when there's really nothing there. For a developed world, we sure are quite primitive.

It's a cute movie and decidedly non-homophobic. The dialogue's wittier than you'd expect.

 Re: Fired Up!
Checked this out last night. Really fun movie! The two leads were really great, as well as the girl from Disturbia. I probably laughed the most at the ridiculous boyfriend character, who was like a mashup of every bad jerk boyfriend/antagonist of all romantic comedies.

 Re: Fired Up!
The cast is actually kind of enjoyable in this teen comedy and while it does have a couple of bits that can be related to the usual genre fare, it stands out and actually is not a bad way to waste 90 minutes. Mindless fun. **1/2

 Re: Fired Up!
Bump... for those despairing at the failure of Will Gluck's sophomore directorial outing (the abysmal Easy A). Gluck came out of the gates flying with Fired Up!, a great, great comedy - - so I'll forgive him his slump with his clunker second film. Let's hope Gluck's third, Friends With Benefits is a return to form, and that he can make better use of Emma Stone's talents in his second pairing with her.
