Stroszek is a 1977 film by German director Werner Herzog. It was written in four days specifically for Bruno S. and was shot in Berlin, two towns in Wisconsin, and in North Carolina. Most of the lead roles are played by non-actors.

That ending certainly elevates the film above the mostly middling social drama it had been. A terrifically dark ending to an utterly bleak work.

Post Re: Stroszek
While I was watching it I wasn't sure if I was watching a real serious movie. Is this a parody? Is this a farce? Is Herzog serious? What the fuck is thing. But as the movie draws closer and closer to the end you get so much into this world that it feels like you get it. You don't know what is it that you're getting. You just do.

Is it a story of a soul not being able to find a place in the world? Is it a harsh comparison/criticism of European/American cultures and the different way how people end up in both cultures as rejects not being able to provide for their own basic needs? Is it a road movie? Is it just a collection of random vignettes that Herzog packaged as one movie?

It's all that and much more. If I had to describe this movie to someone I have no idea where to start, what to describe. There's no real reason why the final scene of a dancing chicken comes as a perfect closing shot of this madness but it does. And what a fucking brilliant scene it ends up. Bravo Mr. Herzog!
