Waiting for Guffman

Quote:
Waiting for Guffman is a mockumentary starring, co-written and directed by Christopher Guest that was released in 1997. Its cast included Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Fred Willard, Parker Posey and others who would appear in several of the subsequent mockumentaries directed by Guest.

The title of the film is a reference to the Samuel Beckett play, Waiting for Godot — similarly, the titular character never appears. As in the other mockumentaries created by Guest, the majority of the dialogue is improvised. Because the film is about the production of a stage musical, it contains several original musical numbers.

The worst of Christopher Guests' improv films, but it's still entertaining. Corky St. Clair is a great character, and the My Dinner With Andre action figures alone make the movie worth watching.

Waiting for Guffman was solid but uneven. I have to say I liked Best in Show and A Mighty Wind a lot more, but this movie was not without its charms. B

Pretty good. I've taken a liking to Guest's improv editting. AT least his multi story approach is a bit more creative a narrative style than most of the singular stuff. Guffman is my second favorite movie of his. Its really a great beginning, and he works with a caste that stays with him from then on in. It drags a little bit at parts, but all in all a very creative and comic endevour.
