Quote:
The Band's Visit (Hebrew: ביקור התזמורת - Bikur Ha-Tizmoret) is an acclaimed 2007 Israeli film directed by Eran Kolirin.

The Band's Visit was Israel's original Foreign Language Film submission for the 80th Academy Awards, but was rejected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences because it contained over 50% English dialogue. Thus, Israel sent Beaufort instead; Beaufort was finally included in the five final nominees. 'Band's Visit' won eight Israeli Ophir Prizes awarded by the Israeli Film Academy.

The band finally visited my town and I'm really glad they did. This is a simple fish out of water story that delivers in a fresh and very humorous way. The story centers on an Egyptian police band sent to Isreal to play at the opening of an Arab cultural center and through a misinterpretation in directions end up in the wrong town. Kolirin gives us a low-key account of the evening in the town of Bet Hatikva where the band members spend the night, awkwardly engaging with the locals, before they are able to continue on there way. While the tension between the two cultures is lurking in the background, Kolirin only lets their common humanity rise to the surface and shine through. The result is warm, touching, humorous film that leaves the viewer with a positive feeling. One that the world may not be such a bad place after all, if we just realise in the end we all have the same problems, concerns, and dreams.

Grade--- A+

7/10 -> B-

The first title card says it all. An Egyptian band came to visit Israel. A few remember it. That's exactly how the movie tasted.

There are a few great moments, but overall the movie is lacking.
