 Memento
Memento Quote: Memento is a 2000 American psychological thriller film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, adapted from his younger brother Jonathan's short story "Memento Mori". It stars Guy Pearce as Leonard Shelby, a man with anterograde amnesia which renders his brain unable to store new memories. During the opening credits, (which portrays the end of the story) it is shown that Leonard kills Teddy (Joe Pantoliano) for the rape and murder of his wife based on information provided by Natalie (Carrie-Anne Moss).
This film is often used to show the distinction between plot and story. The film's events unfold in two separate, alternating narratives — one in color, and the other in black and white. The black and white sections are told in chronological order, showing Leonard conversing with an anonymous phone caller in a motel room. Leonard's investigation is depicted in color sequences that are in reverse chronological order. As each sequence begins, the audience is unaware of the preceding events, just like Leonard, thereby giving the viewer a sense of his confusion. By the film's end when the two narratives converge we understand the investigation and the events that lead up to Teddy's death.
Memento premiered on September 5, 2000, at the Venice Film Festival to critical acclaim and received a similar response when it was released in European theaters starting in October 2000. Critics especially praised its unique, nonlinear narrative structure and themes of memory, perception, grief, self-deception, and revenge. The film was successful at the box office and received numerous accolades, including Academy Award nominations for Original Screenplay and Editing.

My brain was fried after watching this. It's a good movie though. Why isn't Guy Pearce in more good movies? I rate it a B+.

Some people hate it but I loved it.
Good Example that you dont have to spend much money to make a good movie.
Excellent movie
10/10

LOVED it, one of the best films I've seen in quite some time. I guess I have a thing for movies where you actually have to think. I also loved how the sequence of the film flowed, perfect.

The Ending - Beginning version isn't nearly as good...
As most have said, this movie seriously fucks up your brain. Probably about as bad as rusty after a couple bowls of pot...
It doesn't change the fact that this is one of the most creative/original, compelling, confusing, mysterious, smart, and quirky thrillers/mysteries. I'd rank it with The Usual Suspects. The Usual Suspects is the more enjoyable film, but Memento is the greater achievement.

Similar feeling with torrino. A monumental achievement. The Usual Suspects is more clever, while Memento would've lost so much power if it wasn't told the way it did. The story isn't actually that complicated if you think it through in the right order, but it still took me 3 viewings to catch all the details. A.

Memento is freakin' brilliant...
I didn't feel 'fucked up' like everyone did. I found it pretty easy to follow after about 10 minutes, when I realized the movie was going in a certain order. It's not quite The Usual Suspects, which was brilliantly fun, but this one is still fantastic. A

The editing is just so brilliant. It always cuts at the right moment to add to the dramatic or comical effect, such as when Guy Pearce woke up in the bathroom with a bottle in his hand, and each segment isn't too long that you forgot where to piece them together.

The Usual Suspects sucks and is overrated. Don't compare that overrated crap to this, which is only slightly overrated. I give it a B -.

I really loved it. I watched it this morning when I woke up. It was really interesting. I didn't think it was confusing at all, it was really easy to follow but maybe thats just Zing and I. The performances were great! I really, really loved Carrie Anne Moss. She did a great job in it, I was shocked. I didn't think I'd like this too much but I really loved it. I put it off until the last minute I watched with all the movies I rented basically because I heard it was so confusing, I wish it was one of the first movies I watched just because I loved it so much and it wasn't confusing at all.
9/10 (A-)

One of the top five films ever made.
The editing amazing, the twist ending/ beginning was shocking, the story enthralling if simple. The acting great, A+

I agree completely.
My friend kept telling us that we should go see this in theaters, several times. We didn't and eventually he just brought it over when he rented it from Blockbuster and forced us to watch it. It turned into one of the best movies ever for both me and me brother.
I love this movie, and I will force it on any friend of mine who hasn't seen it. (it's tough when they live 300 miles away, but I'LL GET TO THEM EVENTUALLY! THEY CAN'T ESCAPE!)
Christopher Nolan is my favorite director currently working, and this is my favorite movie of his.
1. Memento: ****
2. Insomnia: ****
3. The Prestige: ***1/2
4. Batman Begins: ***1/2
Unfortunately haven't seen the Following cause the DVD I kept getting from Netflix always fucked up during the same scene and I didnt want to watch a movie where I had to skip an entire scene.

Memento is my top 3 movies of all time. Just a terrific film. It was a lot of fun to watch, unravel, and discuss.
I haven't watched it in a few years... seeing this thread reminded me I need to see it again sometime soon.
