 Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Resident Evil: Apocalypse Quote: Resident Evil: Apocalypse is a 2004 science fiction-action-horror film directed by Alexander Witt, from a screenplay written by producer Paul W.S. Anderson. It is the second installment in the series of film adaptations based on the Capcom survival horror game series Resident Evil. Borrowing elements from the video games Resident Evil 2, 3: Nemesis, and Code: Veronica, Resident Evil: Apocalypse follows heroine Alice, who has escaped the underground Umbrella facility, who must band with other survivors including Jill Valentine and escape Raccoon City alive.
It is the second film in the Resident Evil film franchise, preceded by Resident Evil (2002) and followed by Resident Evil: Extinction (2007) and Afterlife (2010) with a fifth film titled Resident Evil: Retribution scheduled for 2012. Freakin' awesome flick. A-

Fun, fun, fun.
The first Reisdent Evil is one of my biggest guilty pleasures, and this one is even better thankfully. Sure it is dumb and the plot's good but kind of weak... But it gets the job done for an action movie, it's fun and entertaining as hell.

Weak plot, weak writing, but awesome action. One of the better movies of the fall, and beats its predecessor hands down. B

Is it stupid? Yes.

Is it fun? Yes.
I thought it was better than the first. For one the special effects are better. The story seems more drawn out, and more excuted in this sequel. It's pacing is damn near perfect. It never gets boring, or uninteresting. I thought it was a fun ride, and I was entertained throughout.

I give it a C+ because it is entertaining in a very retarded way and unintentionally funny. The whole Nemesis thing was stupid as hell, it didnt follow the game at all, both RE movies have barely anything to do with the games, they just use the name to get the publics attention. I cant wait for Silent Hill it sounds much more true to the game, plot wise.

Is it entertaining? No.
Is it fun? No.
Is it appalling that the movie gets better grades on this board than, say, Citizen Kane? Definitely.

Bad, bad movie. Even worse than the first film, which is saying something. I can't even enjoy the action scenes because it's so stupid. Horrible.

Agreed with first three lines in Levy's post. One of the worst movies I've ever seen.

It may not be doing a favor to say that the movie was so damn entertaining because it was (mostly) unintentionally funny. But either way, the result is a film so overdramatic and goofy that it becomes a guilty pleasure. I don't know, sometimes I hate these types of movies, but it's hard for me to be really harsh on a movie that has this much carefree energy.

When compared to movies like 28 days later this really does look bad
Even the sight of Milla Jovavich cannot save this pile.

It's a film that can only be watched once because that's when you realise how bad it is.

Still havent seen it, the first was just so bad. Now that the third is out I may check it out at blockbuster. the first wasn't scary, didnt have particularly any good action (apart from that room with lazers that sliced people) and the acting was horrible. I hear this one is better so I may check it out.

 Re: Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Jeez I take back what I said earlier. It was kinda funny the first time around, but on second viewing the film really is pretty fucking bad. The editing in particular stood out as atrocious. Watching the first film immediately before this, I gotta say losing that film's score drags it down in a big way too. At least the musical cues in the first one were creepy and exciting, not utterly forgettable.

 Re: Resident Evil: Apocalypse
It really does get worse with each viewing. I think the reason it's so goofy/bad is that it's.. following the plot of a freaking video game. Video games do not have good enough plots to be taken seriously in film. Well, the Silent Hill series, definitely. But they fucked that movie up. But yeah, this is my least fav of the series. It doesn't compare at all to RE1 or RE3, both of which I heart.

 Re: Resident Evil: Apocalypse
Finally saw it, and I would say its much better than the wretched first and better than the latest, but the third is still there.
The first was not scary, had nothing to do with the games, and the action was very weak as well. C- it is just a bad adaptation, but now knowing PW Anderson, its what one should expect.
With the second I can at least say its the only one in the series that tried to be the most like the games. You have strong characters in a zombie filled world. Has some cool moments of action and zombie survival, and had the whole, split up and missions aspect that none of the others have had. Nemesis is cool with about as good if cheesy back story it could have had. And Carlos and Jill Valentine are awesome, can't believe they didn't return except to limited roles in 2 films. I actually am glad Anderson did not direct this one. B
The third film is the only one that drops most of the baggage of the the games and goes for a genre Mad Max meets Zombie film, and its pretty decent on that side of things. It also helps that it has the most competent of directors. Though I say that with the slightest of praises as Highlander was his best film and while I love that film, it was 20 years ago and was followed by a lot of trash. B+
Part 4 is not as bad as 1 as we now expect the Resident Evil Franchise will never be as good as the games, but this one while combining things that work with 2 and 3, Anderson really just is a shitty director and the use of slow motion is a killer. Also a terrible ending, and Wesker might be the worst adaptation of a Resident Evil character yet (The Slow motion and him are probably the worst Matrix ripoffs I've seen yet) C
