Tarantino is one of my favorite directors but this did not deliver the goods

It's grown on me, especially the first half.

It's really grown on me too since I've seen it in theaters. B+

I can't grade these films individually. It just doesn't seem right, since the intention of both Tarantino and Rodriguez was to have them shown together. I gave Grindhouse a high A-, it was the best time I had at the theaters all of last year, and I don't support them being split up on DVD. I hope they release the theatrical cut on DVD at some point.

I've only seen the extended version of it (114 minutes) and while it was certainly a step-down for Tarantino, in my opinion, I still liked it. Tarantino just has a way with his characters that I can't help, but like them. Certainly, in this movies Tarantino really overstretches it with wannabe-cool dialogues betwen his gals, but there are some really funny gem lines to be found there. I just wish the whole movie wasn't as self-indulgent as it ended up being.

The first half really becomes tedious after a while and it takes long long time until something finally happens. However, once the shit hits the fan (the main car crash in the film), it's really ugly (read: fantastic). Some real carnage is on display. The second half of the film is better, especially considering I liked the characters more. Rosario Dawson and Zoe Bell did a pretty good job as did Mary Elizabeth Winstead playing the ditzy cheerleader.

But of course, the acting standout is Kurt Russell. However, he didn't deliver as much of an iconic performance as I hoped for. I loved his appearance in the first half of the film, but not sure what to think of him turning all wimpy and cowardly once the girls strike back. I understand how it was intended, but it still didn't work well for me. The car chase in the second half of the film is really bombastic, though. One of the best I've seen in a long time.

I think this film is phenomenal and the better part of Grindhouse. This movie had everything, it was interesting, it was intense and the acting from EVERYONE was great. I loved every second of this, and it's one of the best films of the year. Really, it was just amazing.

Just saw the video. Definitely Tarantino's weakest (and I'm a big fan). It was too long, which makes me think the shorter version released to theatres might have actually been OK. I wish they had included the short version on the DVD.

Are the fake previews on the Planet Terror DVD? I wanted to see those.

A weaker part of Grindhouse. But just by a bit. The first half is a bit too long, but the second one is completely great.

There's about 20-25 minutes of greatness in the film. (mostly to do with car chases and crashes).

The rest is absolutely boring. Sure, there is a lot of irrelevant conversations in Tarantino movies, but never have them been so terribly uninteresting. And even a tad annoying.

My brother put it nicely. "The girls were so annoying I started to root for Stuntman Mike... Until he started crying."

The ending was quite excellent, but I'm afraid most everything leading up to the car chases/crashes was a waste of time.

Nah, both versions feel just about as long as each other. Which is incredibly long.

Death Proof was released in the UK completely seperate to Planet Terror (the latter i haven't seen).

My god it just goes on and on before anything interesting happens. While i admit i did geek out a little when Michael Parks with 'son number one' appeared and also when Abby's ring tone was the whistling from kill bill, that was pretty much the only pleasure. Overblown, overlong and Tarantino's weakest by far. I'd quite like to see the shortened version though, see if it improves it at all.

this has to be one of the hottest movies I've ever seen. The insane car wreckage? The lap dance? The ending?! Hot damn. Its big problem is that it tells a one hour story in nearly two hours, which was hard to deal with at this late hour.

The shortened version was only 5-10 minutes shorter, I believe.

I enjoyed this very much. Unfortunately havnt seen it as a part of Grindhouse yet but on its own it shows flashes of great QT which is still enough to give it a B+ for me.

The last 20 minutes of this movie really make it. When I saw this as part of Grindhouse, I was pretty much bored out of my mind (and annoyed) with the second group of girls. Then the AMAZING finale almost single-handedly made up for everything before it. If there were ever a movie that bounced back after a bad build-up this is it. This has, hands down, the best, most exciting car chase I have ever seen in a movie. It kicked so much ass. The music is great too.

I had a great time with Grindhouse as a whole, but Planet Terror was easily the most consistently entertaining of the double feature. Death Proof goes out with one hell of a bang though.

I did find this easier to swallow on DVD, despite being longer. But the finale doesn't pack the same kind of punch it did on the big screen.


I'd either give this an 8/10 (B+) or 8/10 (A-).

This is seriously a 5 star movie for me.

I seen it with Grindhouse, i seen it in the cinema on it's own, i seen it on it's own on DVD, i bought the soundtrack.

I love the cast, the dialogue, the funny lines from Tracey Thoms and how the 2nd half totally reverses on the first. And a completely different tone.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jordan Ladd, Rose McGowan, Tracie Thoms, Sydney Poitier, Rosario Dawson and Zoe Bell were amazing. I'm gay and i fell in love with Vanessa Ferlito for a while hah.

It's one of my favourite films, period.

Yep, this is easily his weakest films, and I hate saying that, as it has turned into a cliche, but Tarantino doesn't even deny it. I mean, what was the point of the Texas half of the story really up until the bar scene. Eeverything before that should have been snip snippidy snip snip, gone out the fuckin' window.

However, that is not to say this had good aspects to it

The acting is great, the film is ironically hot (trying to turn the viewers into perverts to capitalize on the film's feminist themes), and the car chase at the end was very well done. The Tennessee half is just so much better than the dull Texas half. The characters are more likeable (honestly in the Texas half, only Stunmant Mike, the fucking villain, was likeable), and the action more frequent.

The point was to make a bad film, I'm not sure how a film can be faulted for exceeding so well at it. The double feature aspect of it is what makes it so unique. That said, Stuntman Mike is easily one of Tarantino's best characters, his lack of presence in the 2nd half is the only thing that slows it down for me. Tarantino's only real fault was adding too much of his patented dialogue to the film (It raises it above Grindhouse quality, and people get confused that the rest of the film is intentionally sub par) That said, the two scenes involving the car, are excellent, and the car chase is the best since probably Ronin.
Part 1 is an easy A+, Part 2 is more of an A saved by the ending.

I disagree, the characters in the first half are awesome. Even Rose McGowan brings warmth and heart to the film. It works on so many levels as you don't really know what Mike is capable of yet. The 2nd half outside of a surprisingly sweet and believable turn by Zoe, the characters are downright carbon copies of other Tarantino characters. The action saves it.
