This movie qualifies as the worst Hitchcock feature I've seen so far, lacking the excitement and most of the depth of his other films that I have seen. I can't exactly pinpoint why I enjoyed this one much less than his other efforts, but it's just that the whole film felt very hollow to me. It had all the classic Hitchcock elements which seemed to be in here, just for the mere purpose of being in the film: the cool, mysterious blonde, the wrongly accused man, the final act twist, the innovative cinematography...and yet the movie could never intrigue me about what was happening on screen.

Technically, this is another success for Hitch. The cinematography won an Academy Award and probably deservingly so as it is the best part of the whole film. Grace Kelly does the best job in the acting department here, though Grant is obviously solid as well. The screenplay is very solid when it comes to the dialogue between Kelly and Grant, but is lacking as far as the main storylines goes. The twist is terribly predictable very early in the film and the finale lacks any genuine suspense that is present in most other Hitch films. The setting of the movie is beautiful and so is Grace Kelly, but the film itself couldn't win me over as I never found it involving or engaging. I'd say the characters weren't drawn out well enough in this one either, at least not compared to other Hitchcock works.

It's really just a sexy travelogue. It's Ocean's Twelve, but without the smug.

There's also enough delightful innuendo to make this worth a look.

Enjoyed this one a lot, very entertaining and wow, Grace Kelly is a true beauty. B+

Watching it again, not only is Kelly beautiful in it, she shows herself to be a great actress in it. It is amazing that she made about 10 movies before retiring from acting in her mid 20s. And most of them are high profile roles with big male stars.

And I think Lecter missed the point of this, the robberies weren't the main point of this, even I though they were fun and ok done. This movie showcased Kelly as it was her 3rd movie with Hitchcock.

And to catch a thief was not only to catch the thief. It was for Kelly to catch her thief. Even though Grant looked way too old for her.

Also, wondering how much this influenced the Pink Panther. Have to check out the years of both.

What a dull, un-Hitchcock-like movie! Definitely not worthy of the master. Even Cary Grant's charm was squashed here.
