Quote:
Cobra is a 1986 action film directed by George P. Cosmatos and starring Sylvester Stallone, Reni Santoni, Brigitte Nielsen, and Andrew Robinson.

The screenplay by Stallone was originally written for the film Beverly Hills Cop. It was loosely based on the novel Fair Game by Paula Gosling, which was later filmed under that title in 1995. He had wanted to make a less comedic, more action-oriented film. When he left that project, Eddie Murphy was brought in to play the lead role.

Cobra

Amazing film. I relate this type of film with every role where a lead actor has to play either a badass or a criminal, ie. Collateral, Get Carter, Raw Deal and From Dusk Till Dawn, based on the badass-ness of the lead character only. This is a brilliant action feast; the best in 1986 for sure. It has a brilliant soundtrack with "Angel of the City" by Robert Tepper (who also does "No Easy Way Out" in Rocky IV, my favourite track/film ever) and "Feel the Heat" by Jean Beauvoir.

The villian is brilliant, very simple, but nasty too, the way all great villains are. The film is the epitomy of the eighties in my opinion, the no worries casual action film, with Sylvester Stallone, of all people.

Another guilty pleasure from the Sly Stallone catalogue. Pure, mindless violence and action but i love it.

A very uneven mess most of a film. Stallone is more than capable of this role, but the story is just terrible, and the 80s style is down right annoying. Brigitte is terrible as is the villain. I'll take Lock Up, Judge Dredd, or even Stop or my Mom will shoot before this one.

I love this film. The ego, the glory, the masculinity, the style. ;) It is every dream and pulp indulgence of eighties action cinema combined and injected with a potent steroid. Stallone in absolute top movie-god form.

I watched this again last night (for the first time on Blu-ray). This is such a fun, insane film. It is so beautiful. I love the retro, yet futuristic eighties aesthetic. I guarantee Nicolas Winding Refn has watched Cobra.
