 The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) The Thomas Crown Affair Quote: The Thomas Crown Affair is a 1999 American heist film directed by John McTiernan. The film, starring Pierce Brosnan, Rene Russo and Denis Leary, is a remake of the 1968 film of the same name.
The film generally received positive reviews. It was a success at the box office, grossing $124,305,181 worldwide.
The film's success prompted plans for a sequel starring Brosnan. In January 2007, it was reported that the sequel, tentatively titled The Topkapi Affair, would be a loose remake of the 1964 film Topkapi starring Melina Mercouri, Maximilian Schell, and Peter Ustinov. However, no such sequel has been produced. Entertaining film. B

There's nothing harder to remake a classic, but this one is one of the rare examples where it works. John McTiernan broke out of his slump (if only for one picture) with this slick and stylish caper, but more than that it is an actor's movie. Pierce Brosnan proves to be far more than James Bond, Denis Leary gives a likeable performance as the inspector, but overall it is Renee Russos show, who portrays maybe the hottest 40-something ever to glimpse the screen. It is also remarkable for the climactic final scene in which Crown returns the stolen painting to the gallery. When I watched it for the first time I was completely stunned by with, watching it with an open mouth and giggling with joy. (B+)

Bloody good film. The finale is just excellent cinema, and Pierce is super cool. Plus, Rene boob. All positives in this film.

Throughly enjoyable, even though a bit unbelievable at times. Brosnan and Russo are great, but what's even more important - they have great chemistry. The final scene of Thomas Crown returning the painting is pure genious!

Very good movie. Brosnan and Russo were great together. Too bad Russo isn't doing much these days. B+.

Loooove it. Have seen it a million times.
Brosnan was made for this type of role. Renee is also very good. The twists and turns are perfect.
One of my favourite capers.

Re: The Thomas Crown Affair (1999) Starts off really well. Then it starts to worry a little too much about being a movie for Him and Her. Husband will love the thrills, wife will love the romance, they'll talk about how happy they were with the movie and how it saved their marriage. I don't care about any of that.
Still a decent flick though - 6.5/10
