Quote:
Ghostbusters is a 1984 American science fiction comedy film written by co-stars Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis about three eccentric New York City parapsychologists-turned-ghost capturers. The film was released in the United States on June 8, 1984 and like several films of the era, teamed Aykroyd and/or Ramis with Bill Murray. It was produced and directed by Ivan Reitman and stars Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, Annie Potts, and Ernie Hudson. The film made US$291,632,124 in the United States alone, the equivalent of $538,260,000 in 2010 prices, ranking the film as the 32nd biggest grossing in U.S. box office history after adjustment for inflation.

It was followed by a sequel, Ghostbusters II in 1989, and two animated television series, The Real Ghostbusters (later renamed Slimer! And the Real Ghostbusters) and Extreme Ghostbusters. Ramis, who co-wrote the first two films, has confirmed that a script for a potential third film is being developed by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, the writing team best known for their work on Curb Your Enthusiasm and the American version of The Office. Ramis told a Chicago Tribune columnist in 2008 that the original films' four main cast members may have minor on-screen roles: "The concept is that the old Ghostbusters would appear in the film in some mentor capacity". The American Film Institute ranked Ghostbusters 28th in its 100 Years... 100 Laughs list of film comedies.

Man, how was this never on here. Flawless sci fi, action, comedy. The writing team and actors are in their prime and the chemistry is great. The Special effects were cool, but at the same time cheesy, which means today they still are very good. All and all as time goes on this is now in my top 10 favorite comedies of all time. I can't walk by a piano without doing the "They hate this" line.

It's just about my #2 quotable film of all time.

Never has there been a movie like this and even the FX at the time were out of this world. It was nothing I have ever seen. Definately deserves the title of all time classic

One of my childhood favourites. It doesn't hold up that well, but it still makes me laugh and the song is iconic. Bill Murray is as funny as he's ever been; I wonder if the rumour about him improvising most of his lines is true, because his one-liners are the highlight of this film. A terrific supporting comedy cast surrounds him, but this is really Murray's film. The FX look kinda cheezy today, but they were superb way back when. The ending is, again, cheezy, but the giant marshmallow man is pure genius. Gotta love that car, too (Ghostmobile?). It's dated, even if it's only twenty years old, but it's a classic '80s comedy and sort of a guilty pleasure for me.

A pretty much perfect film.

It's amazing how most popcorn films like this from the '80s have become dated, though this one remains so awesome. Shows the power of a fun, original, brisk and oh so quotable screenplay ("Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown!"). Love it.

A no-brainer to grade, this is one an instant classic of popcorn cinema and remains one of the most purely entertaining films ever made. It is so ironic that this came out together with Gremlins, a similar popcorn classic. Great screenplay, amazing effects for its time and a splendid cast make this perfect entertainment.

7/10 -> B-

Definitely lost a good chunk of it's "greatness" over the years. With each vieweing the movie is thinner and thinner and the anti-climax of the end (despite having the priceless face emotions of the marshmallow man) doesn't help at all.

The acting is good on everyone's part, but the jokes are outdated. Someone mentioned Gremlins. They always get the same amount of laughter from me no matter how much I watch them. I think Ill let Ghostbusters lay in my memory as a much better film then it actually is. I loved it as a kid. But the repeat viewings are killing it for me.

I second just about everything (the Gremlins love, too), only I never loved Ghostbusters so there's that slight difference.

I can barely think of an 80s comedy that holds up better, except maybe Airplane and the original Vacation.

Yeah for the re-release I decided to sticky it. Will do the same for Forrest Gump next week.

Watched this with my lady two? weekends ago. She hadn't seen it. She "liked" it. I loved it.

Some of the effects are really LOL. But some are actually not bad.

I went and saw the re-release (I was even the only one in the theatre, but that's to be expected at 11:15 AM on a Friday), and I still enjoyed it about as much as I did the last time I saw it. It may not go quite as far as it could with its premise of nerdy academic men taking on supernatural spirits, but it's still pretty damned entertaining and retains its rewatchability and quotability after all these years. Even though a reunion undoubtedly would not have yielded equally enjoyable results, it would have been fun to see Murray, Akroyd, and the late Ramis share this onscreen rapport with one another one more time after the sequel (which I haven't seen in at least 16 years and remember very little about).

Of course it's a good film, and highly enjoyable, but then I haven't seen it in about 20 years. It's not in my top 150. It was always a film that my brother enjoyed more. He was always more boringly mainstream than me. I was more into Masters of the Universe or Jackie Chan.

I'd give it a B. Maybe a B+. I'd like to rewatch it. I imagine lots of people are in my boat, hence why I think it's a great film to re-release.

So just watched a special screening at the NY Public Library (Where the film begins) with a special appearance by Ernie Hudson. So much fun! Movie looked good, but I didn't see too much in it in regards to digitally remastered. Still movie rocks, and it was the perfect crowd to see it with. One of the best times at the theater for sure.

I downloaded Ghostbusters 2 a few days ago. That should be a fun rewatch. It must be 20 years since I saw it last.
