Quote:
Hannibal is a 2001 psychological thriller directed by Ridley Scott, adapted from the Thomas Harris novel of the same name. It is a sequel to the 1991 Academy Award-winning film The Silence of the Lambs that returns Anthony Hopkins to his iconic role as serial killer Hannibal Lecter. Julianne Moore co-stars, taking over for Jodie Foster in the role of FBI Agent Clarice Starling.

Set ten years after The Silence of the Lambs, the premise is that Lecter's only surviving victim, Mason Verger (portrayed by Gary Oldman), is determined to capture, torture, and kill him. The film's locations alternate between Italy and the U.S.

Hannibal was a highly anticipated sequel. It marked the third film appearance of Lecter.

The "bumpy" development of Hannibal drew a large amount of attention, with Silence of the Lambs director Jonathan Demme, screenwriter Ted Tally and actress Jodie Foster all eventually declining involvement. Upon release, Hannibal broke box-office records in the United States, Australia, Canada and the UK in February 2001.

This was the best of the series for me. I'm surprised, though, because I didn't expect this to be as good as Silence of the Lambs, but it was. I'm a big fan of the Hannibal Lecter series, though. Another movie that was a dissapointment to most, but a damn good movie to myself.

See, Zing, this is where our styles clash (we like many of the same movies, believe it or not ;) )

I was so let down. The others in the series are very good. Hell, SOTL is one of the best films ever made. And then this. I love the European style and such, but honestly....

Let's just say I was sorely dissapoitned. I still think it's an okay movie, but not even as good as Red Dragon. :?

Silence of the Lambs is excellent, too. Red Dragon was great, but not the best of the series.

Silence of the Lambs - A
Hannibal - A
Red Dragon - A-

Well, I can't rate Hannibal as a stand alone. I just can't do it. I can, however, relate it relative to the rest of the series:

Manhunter - C+
Red Dragon - B+
Silence of the Lambs - A+
Hannibal - B-

Still one of my most favorite series, though.

Good movie. Not even close to The Silence of the Lambs. Bad people were worse than Lecter and made you root for him. Loved the dinner scene at the end

This is on par with Silence of the Lambs for me. Hannibal is just awesome. I love it's style, it's gore. Julianne Moore is great as Starling. A+

I liked Hannibal, but I liked Silence of the Lambs and Red Dragon much better. I just think the stories for the other two films were stronger, along with the acting. However, it's still a decent movie.

Not me :)

I'd give Hannibal an A and SOTL a B or a B-.

I actually thought this was the least greatest of the 3. I would put SIlance of the Lambs first and the Red Dragon and then Hannible. It was creepy yes but I found the story lacking and just not as good as the other 2.

It was on a Canadian station the other night, and I got to see plenty of Julianne Moore's cleavage. I hope to see it soon.

The worst sequel of all-time since it has the biggest drop-off from the original, qualitywise. The story is a total mess and Ridley Scott manages to make the most memorable villain in the history of the cinema (AFI) a boring character. The secondary characters are one-dimensional and if the most shockinng scene of the movie (Liotta's Brain) turns out to be an unintentional funny one, you know that you are in big trouble. (F)

A+

Since its release it resides in my all-time Top 10. Without a doubt, it is the best novel-to-movie transition I have ever witnessed. Perfectly captures the spirit of the book. Julianne Moore is surprisingly not any worse than Jodie Foster as Starling, but it's all Hopkins' show this one and he's at a top of his game. The atmosphere of the movie is superb, the techical aspects are top-notch. The cinematography, the editing and the direction are great. Amazing flick.

I also found it terrible and boring,i dont know how but scott managed to make lecter annoying and not scary,i would have never imagined that brett ratner would manage to make a better addition to a series than ridley scott but he did.

Just finished watching it again and it was great. Definately in my all-time top twenty and maybe a bit ahead of Silence. A+

A Poll please. :)
