Both have made big action and sfx movies. Both of them have their fair share of big hits BUT they both have a mediocre critical support.
In your opinion who is better?!
I pick Roland Emmerich becasue i like Independence day, Patriot and Day after tommorow.
Michael bay for me has made only 2 good movies armageddon and the rock.

Bay. I actually like all of his films, even The Island. Emmerich's movies are decent too, but I find Bay's to be more entertaining.

ehh. Roland Made Godzilla , boooo. but he redeemed himself with the Patriot, a phenomenal film.
as for Mr. Bay, I Havent seen the rock, but of the bay films I've seen Bad Boys is my favorite (The Patriot Freakin owns all Bay films)
Grades for Roland
The Patriot - A
Independence Day - B+
The Day After Tomorrow - B
Godzilla - D-
Universal Soldier- B
Mr. Bay
Bad Boys - A-
Pearl Harbor - B
Bad Boys II - B
Armageddon - B-
The Island - B-
there about even, but I'd give the edge to Roland (thanks to the awsomeness of The Patriot)

The Patriot sucked. I give the edge to Michael Bay for The Rock.

I like Emmerich more. In fact I think that he is a very underrated director, because he is one of the best action directors in Hollywood. His movies are flawed, yes, but they have very dynamic, skillfully staged, exciting and impressive set pieces. And that's not an easy thing to do.

Michael Bay has one good movie (The Rock) on his resume. Most of his other movies are mediocre, although I wouldn't call any of them awful except Bad Boys II.
Roland Emmerich has made three I enjoyed: The Patriot (undoubtedly the best overall movie he's made), Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow. Those are slightly balanced out by Godzilla, one of the worst movies ever probably.

That's stranger and more far-fetched than anything that's said in the book Genesis.

Michael Bay. I've been entertained by his movies, even if they're wall-to-wall mindless action. The only Emmerich movie I love is The Patriot, though ID4 and Stargate are alright too.

they are both hacks, but in the end, emmerich may be the more competent dirctor. though godzilla stands out as one of the worst event movies ever.

Um, no. I would expect more from someone with a Suspiria avatar.
Roland Emmerich is probably the biggest hack filmmaker currently working. He has no distinct visual style to speak of, and completely lacks any sort of artistry or competence as a director.
Michael Bay, however, is an important filmmaker (with a distinct style) who is probably as vital to male cinema as someone like Scorsese or Peckinpah.

And I thought you were being sarcastic in my thread. So, it's either the same joke twice or.. the unthinkable.

Emmerich has made more movies that I liked, but he did Godzilla, and for that, he will never be forgiven.

Bay's oft-offensive (and usually shitty) masturbatory spectacles are far more interesting than anything Emmerich has ever done.

I don't care for either of them, to be honest. Some of their movies are entertaining, but... I don't even feel compelled to consider which one is "better."
I really liked Stargate, despite it being cheesy... the mythological aspect is fun.
