 Starship Troopers
Starship Troopers Quote: Starship Troopers is a 1997 American military science fiction film, written by Edward Neumeier (screenplay), directed by Paul Verhoeven, loosely adapted from Starship Troopers, a science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein. It was the first of three films released in the Starship Troopers franchise. The film had a budget estimated around $105 million and grossed over $121 million worldwide.
The story follows a young soldier named Johnny Rico and his exploits in the Mobile Infantry, a futuristic military unit. Rico's military career progresses from recruit to non-commissioned officer and finally to officer against the backdrop of an interstellar war between mankind and an arachnoid species known as "the Bugs".
Starship Troopers was nominated for an Academy Award (visual effects) in 1998. The film has attracted controversy and criticism for its social and political themes, which some critics claim promote militarism or even fascism. Director Paul Verhoeven says his satirical use of irony and hyperbole is "playing with fascism or fascist imagery to point out certain aspects of American society... of course, the movie is about 'Let's all go to war and let's all die.'"

Fun, silly, cheesy. Not the best sci-fi film, but not the worst. B

As for the sequel: One of the most blatant rip-offs in recent memory. No returning original cast members, new director, direct-to-DVD. Terrible, train-wreck disaster of a film. D
One of the lowest grades I've ever given. The only lower grade would be Boa vs. Python (F)

Pretty bad. I can appreciate a whole lot about the film, being a scifi junkie.... but, as a film, its silly. C-

How I hate to say this "generic" phrase whichI usually disdain myself, but...I think many (not all, but many) who graded it lowly didn't "get" it. I consider the movie to be a very intelligent anti-war satire which manages to be smart and entertaining at the same time. The visual effects are splendid, the gore is present in its full overdone glory and the overall production values are great. The acting is pretty monotone, but what do you expect if the movie's main stars are Casper van Dien and Denise Richards? I would say it did fit the tone of the movie, though, as the characters is certainly not what this movie is about. Paul Verhoeven is at his best critical, satirical and cynical form here. An underrated gem.

Excellent Anti-War satire. The visuals are impressive for the time they were done. The gore level is also suprisingly high.

Very bad dialogue and acting but one of the best CGI ever made that doesnt look outdated. I never knew it was supposed to be a satire
If I were to grade the movie I would say
A+ for the FX, battle scenes, violence and gore
D for the dialogue and acting
I may as well give it a B+
Im surprised so few mentions about how great the CGI was even almost 10 years back

A guilty pleasure. Fun to watch if only for the great action scenes and the cool CGI bugs. The acting is pretty bad, as expected, but the story is interesting and the satire is intriguing, if poorly done.

Great Sci-Fi movie with a wicked facist undertone of humour.

Get it? What do you mean by that? What is the underlying message?
