This movie is getting horrendous reviews.

A whopping 6% on RT.

Sometimes I don't understand why critics seem so lethal in hating on a certain movie, like the case of Because I Said So. Although it was ultimately incredibly fluffy and lightweight, I thought it was mostly delightful. Diane Keaton, who I did not find shrill at all, is hilarious, while Mandy Moore is completely appealing. The rest of the supporting cast is solid but underused (the movie could've used more scenes with sisters Lauren Graham and Piper Perabo). It was a lot funnier than I was expecting, as well. Crowd reaction was very good. B

It was a cute movie, but not something I'd ever want to see again. The plot was too sitcom-y, as was some of the directing. I especially hated all the split screens they kept throwing in there when they were on the phone and whatnot. Mandy Moore, who I really do love, was not great here. I thought her acting was really bad at times, even though you can't help but love her character anyway. I thought Lauren Graham was pretty bad, too -- she's more suited for TV acting than movie acting. She seemed stiff and uncomfortable in whatever scenes she was in. All in all, it was an okay movie, but I enjoyed last weeks Catch & Release much, much, much more.

Did I really expect to enjoy the film? Well not really. I was expecting to be a least slightly amused. However, after noticing that the trailers and tv spots didn't feature anything new for a few weeks, I didn't expect good things. Usually when no new footage is shown, the film can't be very good. And I was correct. I just didn't realize how awful this was going to be exactly.

With the exception of Mandy Moore and Stephen Collins, there is not one reason to watch this film. The writing is stereotypical and cheesy. There is a scene towards the end of the film that is in a bakery where Johnny admits his love to Milly by proclaiming that he wants to be her electric current - or something like that, was flat out embarassing to listen to. And then to have it follow up with the old people making out, and the old lesbian couple, well, I'm just glad it didn't turn into an orgy. The plot unfolds unrealistically. Johnny goes back to Milly although he has to be reminded that he loves her - Convincing! And for a romantic comedy, there is no romance and there is no comedy. Diane Keaton hamming it up and trying to get a laugh was just sad to watch. And whenever she acted sincere, it came across as false.

I also did something in this film, I've never done while watching a film. I left for ten minutes. At around the 45 minute mark I just left because I had enough - though I couldn't leave for good because I went to see the film with my mom, and I felt that if I abandoned her like that, that wouldn't have been such a good thing. So I snuck into Casino Royale. What a breath of fresh air that was. It reminded me why I love films so much. Then I had to go back and watch this. Fantastic. Sad thing was, I was gone for ten minutes, and I immediately fell into line with what was happening in the film. Just pathetic.

A very generic, but entertaining nonetheless chick flick. I thought Keaton's character was really annoying. Moore was cute, Perabo underused (and her character's existence pretty much pointless), and Graham was perfectly fabulous (as usual). She was easily my favorite of these women. Gabriel Macht (The Good Shepherd) was absolutely adorable in a hat, but not as much out of one. He was still cute though and I liked his character (even though he came with a kid and kids are bad).

Overall there's nothing new here and Keaton's character can be frustrating to watch, but the movie was entertaining and if you're easy to please when it comes to a movie like this then you should enjoy it. Leave your cynicism at the door or you'll find plenty to pick apart here. If you just want to be entertained for an hour and a half then you just might enjoy this.

Grade: 7/10 (B-)

Never gave my thoughts on this, but it was, indeed, really, really bad.

I mean, it's not the worst thing ever made, though the reviews may indicate otherwise. It's just uninspired, humorless, and, at times, incredibly inane. There are about three scenes, all involving Diane Keaton's character (one with a computer, one with a car chase, and one involving asking her daughter what an orgasm feels like), that are some of the worst things I can remember seeing in a romcom. (The silence and sense of confusion and incredulity in our small theater during these scenes was kind of funny, though!)

Keaton isn't really that bad here. I'm willing to bet that any other actress would have been just as hard to watch doing these things.

I'll give the film credit, though, for at least being watchable. Even Mandy Moore, who I don't think is all that great here, is a likable presence.

I don't know. C- or so. Again, it's pretty awful at times, but not the worst thing ever. Still, though, no need to see it.

I actually enjoyed it more on DVD than I did when I saw it in theaters, and would bump my rating up to a 7/10 ( B ). My family really enjoyed it too. It plays better on the small screen.

D+

The only reason why Lauren Graham was uncomfortable in this is because the script here is just horrendous.
