Post Streep is Taking Home an Oscar Club
(For Devil Wears Prada or Prairie Home Companion...or anything else!)

I'm calling it now. If she goes through Best Actress (Prada), she'll win over Mirren. If she goes through supporting (Prada, Prairie) it'll be an easier cruise to victory, but either way: Streep is winnning an Oscar this year.

Who's with me?

Sorry. The grand Ms. Mirren will not be denied.

If you had me pick between Hudson/Dreamgirls and Streep/Prada, I'd go with Streep winning hands down. She's a vet who hasn't won in 23 years. It'll be her 14th nomination and she's America's most nominated actress....ever. She's doing a role against character, and whom everyone admittedly loved. Hudson could be great, it could be the breakthrough performance of a life, but 1. I don't think Dreamgirls is going to get as much love as you believe anyways, 2. They'll consider the fact that she's getting a nom when its her first performance ever to be "enough," especially because she is so young. Though really, I think Streep is going to run in the Best Actress category, and that they'll give it to the old-time American veteran over the old-time British one easily. Either way, Streep is taking home her first Oscar since 1983 this year.

I kind of doubt she'll get a nomination for A Prairie Home Companion, but it's a possibility. She'd probably still lose out to Jennifer Hudson.

I think Helen Mirren may be too mighty to be topped for Best Actress, but I feel like if anyone could do it, it would be Miranda Priestley ("How difficult is it to get a cup of coffee?")

Compared to the grand Ms. Streep?

Every year they have to throw in at least one popular winner. Prada made a surprise 130 million, and there was quite the consensus that it was because of Streep.

You guys will see. She'll win....

If they throw in one popular winner I'd say before they give it to Streep over Mirren they'll give it to either DiCaprio or Nicholson for The Departed.

They might nominate her, but there is no way in hell she's winning.

They have Mirren to give the Oscar to... and if not her, they have Dench. And if not Dench, there is Cruz.

Peace,
Mike.

First sure-fire nominee for 2006 film year
Is definately Audrey Tautau. I don't see how there is a single way in which she won't be nominated for an acting award in Da Vinci Code.

I love you Galia!

"The details of your incompetence do not interest me."

I really kind of want Meryl Streep to win, just because I think it's time someone wins an Oscar for playing an Ice Queen (Kathy Bates does not count).

Please, enough with Meryl. She wasn't even the best thing in Prairie Home Companion. I think she got her last few nominations more on reputation than actual achievement, this has to stop

Have you seen The Devil Wears Prada? That's the one she's getting actual serious consideration for, not Prairie.

She is probably the only person who could have played the role.

Dolce put both movies in her club policy
The fact that she was the best in Prada, doesn't make her role any more Oscar worthy against the likes of Helen Mirren et al. And her twin Glenn Close probably could have played it equally good.

Her twin already did (101 Dalmtions) and went royally over-the-top. Meryl was perfect because of how she underplayed it.

I think the over-the-top was the concept of Dalmatians. It was a Disney movie...

Obviously, I'm just saying that I don't think Glenn Close would've been nearly as good.

I loved her in Adaptation. That wasn't just her reputation preceeding her, she desrved the win, more or less the nomination for that role.

And I'm just saying they need to play Streep's cards right. They could shuffle her into supporting role for Prada, and maybe better her chances. But I do think she'll walk away with an Oscar this year.

The Prairie bit (I did think Tomlin was even better, but they were both great), is mostly because of Altman's death, or if she gets the double nom (Best for Prada, supporting for Prairie) they might give her the Prairie one for a consession. Though their best bet is to just put Prada squarely in supporting actress land.

I'm printing up t-shirts....the rest of you guys just aren't cool enough to be part of my club. Hmmmph!

That Tautau thing was based on very early buzz. Before there were even film reviews in. Prada is doing very well in early awards, had good reviews, and has proven support for Streep. You'll see.

Might have, but she didn't get the part so this is all just guesswork. If she'd gotten the part, I'd probably be saying she's a gauranteed winner too. That role is probably the biggest role from any we've seen this year. I'm not talking the whole movie, but the role. And you know what? Glen still wouldn't have won, because the Academy hates her (why? I don't know). Streep is an Academy darling though. More noms than anyone in history.

Dench isn't winning, and Dench has a supporting win in the past decade. So if it was between them, Streep would definately get it. Its only Mirren that is a wild card, and if Strrep's smart, she'll just go through supporting actress and by-pass the issue altogether. Her chief competition in supporting is Hudson, and I have the feeling Dreamgirls is going to pull a Geisha, so, yeah.

If she's moved to supporting for Prada or if she somehow manages double nominations (and these are big "if"s), I'm officially in this crazy club :shades:

If she does indeed get nominated in supporting for Prada, I'd join the club as well.

But in the lead, she'd probably be the front-runner were it not for Mirren.

They'll move her to supporting if they're smart. But you have to admit, being the front runner in supporting, being runner-up in lead, and potentially taking home a double means Streep has quite the hand to play this year.

Sooooo.....I'll just add android to the list, and we'll see about Raffi soon enough.

Oh.. and potentially being the only American in the Lead Actress category. Yes, I'm feeling confident now.

If she gets a double nom, I think her chances would actually diminish.

She will split the vote between the two categories and the only one she might have had a chance in (Supporting) will definitely be shot.

Miranda for Supporting!
