 Anyone catch Friday Night Lights?
Im a big fan of the film, easily one of the best sports films ever made and when I saw the spots for this new show I felt it was a total carbon copy of the film and that was actually a big turn off, I really had no interest to see it if it had absolutely nothing new to bring to the table then I read reviews that made it sound like one of the best new shows this fall and that raised my interest on it back up a bit.
It turned out to be a pretty damn good show, it takes the little touches that made Friday Night Lights such a great film and makes it it's own, making for a compelling tv show ( what they did in the last 20min or so was very bold and made the show THAT much better ) that i'll make sure to catch next week.

Judging from the ratings, the answer is no. Nobody caught Friday Night Lights.
Me? I had it on in the background as a perused the blogs of funny goth children, but didn't really pay attention. Looked well-made enough.

I'm gonna bump this for the DVD. WATCH IT PEOPLE!
I'm only four episodes in, but this is easily one of the best new shows in ages.

It's good for what it is: a regular straight ahead drama. But I'm not sure how many poeple want to see that kind of thing anymore. People seem to prefer glossy 'who's doing who?' dramas.
The DVD set of FNL is 19.99 for a 5 disc set and reportedly comes with a money back guarantee if you don't like it.

Bought the DVD a few days ago. 4 episodes in, loving it so far. Plot-wise it's fairly simplistic, but the brilliance really lies in the execution and performances, all excellent.

one of the biggest surprises I've ever seen. Lame overused concept turned into brilliance! That's what good characters will get you. NBC rules for not canceling it.

Re: Anyone catch Friday Night Lights?
I got into FNL via the DVDs this summer and it quickly became my new favorite show. Someone upthread described it perfectly when they said it was a pretty basic concept but the brilliance lies in the excecution of the show. I'm choosing to be naive and prepare myself for an entire season two of FNL.

Re: Anyone catch Friday Night Lights?
I wasn't a fan of the movie at all, but despite all that I decided to give this show a chance when I found the first season on sale for a mere $12.99. I'd heard all the acclaim and knew it had a devoted following, so I was hoping that I would enjoy it. That was Monday. Now it's Thursday and I'm already watching the second disc of season two. This is an absolutely fantastic series. Not to mention incredibly addicting. It's continuously intriguing and heartfelt, with great storylines that make this show impossible to stop watching. The acting is also unexpectedly phenomenal. Every actor is great on this show, no exceptions. Even those who play the somewhat stereotypical "teen drama" roles are great and give their characters so much depth. That's one of the show's biggest strengths - you really care about each and every one of the characters. It's a shame that this show has been pretty much ignored by the Emmys (the fact that none of the actors have ever gotten nominated is inexcusable, especially Connie Britton) and it's disappointing that it hasn't found a bigger audience, but I'm really happy that NBC seems to realize they've got a fantastic show on their hands (much like "30 Rock") and are keeping it around. Hopefully the new deal with DirecTV will ensure that this lasts well past the third season.
I highly recommend this show to everyone. Rent the first season (or even buy it, it's really not that expensive even at regular price, especially for a TV show) and you'll instantly be hooked.
