 Borat
Quote: Borat! Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, often referred to simply as Borat, is a 2006 mockumentary comedy film directed by Larry Charles and distributed by 20th Century Fox. It was written, produced by, and stars the English comedian Sacha Baron Cohen in the title role of a fictitious Kazakh journalist traveling through the United States, recording real-life interactions with Americans. It is the second film built around one of Baron Cohen's characters from Da Ali G Show, following Ali G Indahouse, which also featured a cameo by Borat.
Despite a limited initial release in the United States, the satire was a critical and commercial success. Baron Cohen won the 2007 Golden Globe Award for Best Actor: Musical or Comedy, as Borat, while the film was nominated for Best Motion Picture in the same category. Borat was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 79th Academy Awards. The film is often featured in critical assessments of greatest comedy films ever made.
Controversy surrounded the film even two years before its release. It was denounced for having a protagonist who is sexist, homophobic, and antisemitic, and, after the film's release, some cast members spoke against, and even sued, its creators. All Arab countries, except for Lebanon, banned it,[6] and the Russian government discouraged cinemas there from showing it. It was released on DVD March 5, 2007 (a day later in Region 1 countries).

Saw this around two weeks ago. Not a classic but very funny nonetheless. If you like Jackass or Punk'd, you'll like this too. If not, you should probably avoid this. B.

Hands down, the funniest movie of the year. It is offensive to almost everybody in some way. There are quite a few laugh out loud moments. It is original, fast paced and hilarious. Sacha Baron Cohen should be a serious consideration for some awards.

awards condideration *pause* Not. it certainly was funny but i disagree about the "funniest" of the year but A2D.
A solid B, it was nothing special but was funny. It is offensive and some of it goes over the top but the lib media will certainly gloss over certain elements. the funniest part was the nude fight and also the dinner party with the reverend.
most annoying part was i sat next to this couple and the dude's gf was this most certainly ultra lib lady who glady swore and gave the finger to the cali boys when they talked down about women but laughed it but when borat the great did it. 20

My biggest problem is the marketing, there was just too much over exposure online, they showed off too many bits and also got to the point where they almost played out the character with all the interviews and such he was doing everywhere.
Still, I dont think there was one joke that didnt put atleast a smile on my face and the fight between Borat and Azamat Bagatov........... wow
Happy time, two thumbs up.

Funniest movie I have seen, without a doubt. The naked fight will go in the history books for funniest/nastiest scene of all time. I can't believe he tried to kidnap Pamela Anderson.

Decent, but not the funniest movie of all time by any means. The naked fight scene was so incredibly gross but so incredibly funny at the same time.

I wish there will be an extended cut and muti-angle study of that naked fight/69 between Borat and Azamat.
A lot of laugh-out-loud offensive, disgusting moments and surprisingly some oddly sweet scenes. And as Kill said, there was also a smile in my face throughout the film. Even the weird score is funny!

Anyone think the Kazakh national anthem (with apparently original words and music by Erran and Sacha Baron Cohen) be a contender for Original Song? lol

That song they played throughout the film is actually the main song in an incredibly good movie about gypsies, forgot the name of the movie, gotta find out.

Here is the thing, Borat is stupid. I laughed my ass off but at the same time kept thinking to myself "wtf am i watching?"
I don't know what was scripted and what was not, specially in regards to the different interactions Borat has with Americans on his journey from east to west coast. But at the end of the movie, it didn't matter because either way the things said, both good and bad, are true. Such extreme statements are said that they become funny and their ridiculousness is exposed.
This morning I am sitting here processing everything I saw last night and I am coming to the conclusion that the movie is brilliant. It exposes all of the craziness behind this country's current culture wars. While your sides are hurting at the fact that Borat is kissing guys on the cheeks but handshaking the women, he's infiltrating your psyche and really asking you "why is this so funny?" Then there were the unanimous gasps at hearing an old man tell Borat to shave his moustache because it makes him look like an Arab aka terrorist.
And there are just moments taken out from the best "America's Funniest Home Videos" moments.
I can't wait for the controversy to start once the victimized groups in the movie start complaining.

Loved the film.Way too many things to list from the running of the jew parade, and the diner scene where he brings his own feces to the table and the whole homoerotic hotel fight he had with his ambassador. Its pretty much in line with what he has shown on tv. I havent laughed this much in theaters in a long time. My only gripe is I wish he actually shown his retarded brother in a cage that he also talks so much in the show about

No shock. I loved it. I've never laughed so much in a movie theater. I was seriously dying in my seat.

I loved it. The entire theater was in tears laughing so hard through out the entire movie. Other than the prostitute, I don't know what was scripted and what wasn't, but I hope the news interview and the Pamela Anderson thing weren't. It sorta ruins it if they were.
Also, I don't know if this is well known, since I haven't really followed any of the hype, but Borat was speaking Hebrew the whole time. (Azmat wasn't.) It adds just a little bit more to the funny.

Pretty funny but the recent overexposure ruined some of the stuff because I'd seen it so many times. The naked fight was the dumbest part because it went on for far too long.

I laughed. I liked it. But the terribly unfunny college kids segment grinds the thing to a halt, and it's only funny one more time after that (Pamela sack )

Oh, and Clerks II was funnier.

I have never laughed so hard in a movie. Ever. In fact, when I left I was actually sick from laughing so hard, my stomach still hurts. I also nearly fell out of my chair onto the hard concrete floor on numerous occasions (the 69 scene especially).
It is not the best made movie but damn if it isn't one of the funniest I've ever seen. I think the best part of it is how vapid and self obsessed some of the people are and it is quite funny to see how offended they get when poked fun at. There are just too many scenes to mention that were beyond funny.
Definately highly recommended. Though I do agree with Sam, I, at many times throughout the movie, kept leaning over to my friend and asking him ... wtf am I watching?

I'm almost afraid to see this movie based on the reaction you claim you had by nearly falling out of your chair onto the concrete floor for laughing so hard that in no way, I can't believe it's this funny.. You wouldn't be overexagerrating a little now would ya??

I loved Wedding Crashers, but barely laughed during it.
I enjoyed Dodgeball but also barely laughed during it. I generally chuckle in a movie but unless it is just uproariously funny I'm not very expressive of said laughter.
Now, I do recall having surgery and being on Vicodine for pain and finding Robots utterly hillarious beyond belief. I watched it while completely lucid and fell asleep...

I think it was because you can tell its staged on that segment which took away too much of its gimmack. The best bits are when you hear the whole rodeo audience cheering about Bush drinking the blood of children yet they were booing the part where Borat butchers the national anthem
