 The Ghost and the Darkness The Ghost and the Darkness Quote: The Ghost and the Darkness is a 1996 adventure film starring Michael Douglas and Val Kilmer set in Africa at the end of the 19th century. It was directed by Stephen Hopkins and based on a screenplay by William Goldman.
The film tells a fictionalised account about the two lions that attacked and killed workers at Tsavo, Kenya during the building of the African Uganda-Mombasa Railway in 1898.
It won an Academy Award for Sound Editing.

Such a good idea for a movie, ruined by bad casting and a choppy style.

Very entertaining movie. Douglas and Kilmer were both solid and the scenes with the lions were great. B+

a very fun and entertaining movie about 2 killer lions who threaten workers as they're constructing a bridge in africa. kilmer and douglas are great in their roles, and the soundtrack is great.
