Quote:
Mortal Kombat is a 1995 American action and adventure film directed by Paul Anderson. Based on the Mortal Kombat series of fighting games, the film was the first part of the Mortal Kombat film series.

The film follows the warrior Liu Kang, actor Johnny Cage, and Special Forces agent Sonya Blade, guided by the Thunder God Raiden, on their journey to combat the evil sorcerer Shang Tsung and his forces in a tournament to save Earth. The main inspiration for the film was the first title of the video game series, but also featured elements and characters from the game Mortal Kombat II. Mortal Kombat was filmed primarily in Los Angeles, as well as on location in Thailand.

The film was released on August 18, 1995 in the United States, on October 20, 1995 in the United Kingdom and on December 26, 1995 in Australia. It proved very popular with fans of the games, despite receiving mixed reviews by critics upon its release. The film spent three weeks as the #1 film at the United States box office and earned a total of $122,195,920 worldwide. Due to its success at the box office, the film later spawned a sequel, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, released in 1997, and a television series, Mortal Kombat: Konquest, released in 1998.

Loved it. I was obsessed with it when I was six, and even now, I still love it. Too bad the sequel's awful.

Remains the best video game movie ever made.

That isn't saying much. At all...

But it was still good for what it was.

Annihilation, on the other hand, was the worst movie I've seen in theaters.

Mortal Kombat: ***

A-/B+

Heh, pretty awesome, and yeah, one of the better video game adaptations ever made. Seeing the MK fight scenes on screen was sweet, all the fighters were nailed down nicely.

The most enjoyable videogame movie ever made. Also led to the first time my expectations were crushed when seeing a sequel :P

Great guilty pleasure. I love it, one of the best video game adaptations ever. Great and inventive fights. Yeah, the sequel was terrible, though.

It was awsome when I was younger, it had all my favorite characters in it and had some pretty kick ass action for it's time.

Grade - B

I wanted to leave right when Cage died ( he was my favorite character in the first ) in the second film........ I made the mistake of staying :disgust:

But you would have missed the greatest scene of all time, when Jax tears off his metal arms and gets his confidence back!

That was the moment when I thought it can't get much worse than this.

Booooyyy, I was wrong! Because the fake CGI animality-dragons-fight followed.

The fights in Mortal Kombat were decent.

The fights in Annihilation went like this.

Roundhouse kick, guy ducks under it and tries a roundhouse kick of his own, which the other guy ducks under. Rinse and repeat until tingling sensation no longer ensues.

Pretty much, yeah. Too bad since potential was there. The storyline itself is not even bad. It is the way it was executed, the way the characters behaved, the acting, the effects, the fights...it's all that what sucked. Not the story.

Oh boy, this is far worse than even I had it in my memory. I stopped the clip after one minute, it was too cringe-worthy.

Awwww you missed all the roundhouse kicks, Jax gaining back his confidence, and the claymation dragons.

Post Re: Mortal Kombat
I really liked this movie as a child because this was one of the only action movies I saw back then and the video game was my favorite but watching this now I can see why this movie has bad ratings. There so many great things about this movie specially the production designs that its hard to hate this movie but even then its poorly acted and the plot that goes nowhere towards the end. The fight scenes are also not choreographed very well in this.
