Talk about a film that'll mess with your head. I've seen tons of films with twists before but this takes the cake for the most shocking (well, maybe not shocking, but a big "WTF") ending I've ever seen. Period. Brilliant stuff from John McTiernan.

Problem with this film is that it is too shocking. It tries way to hard to have a twist in it and it suffers because of it.

6/10

Talk about a big WTF film, its up there with Hero. Its not bad, but I can see easily why this bombed. The whole film is a mess, but the acting is pretty well, especially from Travolta.

Post Re: Basic
Im pretty convinced the scriptwriters room was filled with drug fumes when this was written.

Scriptwriter 1: Wow My hands are melting!!
Scriptwriter 2: I've had a brainwave!! Lets make Jacksons character come back in the end and insert a shitload of 180 plot twists.....................that fucking Bird over there is plotting to kill me I know it.
Scriptwriter 1: It will be The Sixth Sense times 489572340193423x, we'll get Oscars!!

At this point ill assume one of them grabbed a knife and attempted to rip the bad "spirits" he saw in the other one and the whole place was blood drenched. Then in the aftermath the script was discovered and the director having no time to get a new one written just went with it.

Reportedly, M. Night Shyamalan was interviewed after the premiere. His response:

'What a stupid ending.'

haha, the plot twists were silly, but still it was fun to see it unfold and it was fairly well made otherwise. I enjoyed it.

Basic

Not a bad film. I do like investigative military films such as Rules of Engagement and A Few Good Men, and Basic does a good job in quick-sharp time. The final-final-final story is a bit elaborate and anti-climactic, but I guess it just about works. The multiple flashback set up is utilised very well, but it might have helped for the characters to have been more thoroughly established as there are lots of names flying around and sometimes it gets complicated in the fast-paced exchanges. And what might have been better was if the film stopped ahead of itself with the Dunbar/Pike twist, because after which it does get a bit much. But overall I liked the film and Travolta is a cool customer.

I saw the first ten minutes before. But sure, never all the way through.
