Your top 10 films of all time
This is a little project I've been working on during downtime at work (see: all the time). I'm not finished yet. It's actually really hard, because I'm trying to put something definitive together that I'll be able to reference and feel comfortable about. Every top ten I've put together in the past was filled with flavor of the month type films that I eventually fell out of love with. I'm trying to avoid that this time, so I'm using a ground rule that is working thus far, but making it pretty difficult. In order for the film to qualify, I have to have seen it at least five times. This effectively eliminates anything too recent, which kind of sucks. I feel like it's the best way to go about it, though. It makes sure that I'm picking films I truly love, that I can watch over and over again. I'd like to see everyone's top ten, too, but only if you can abide by my lone rule. I should have mine finalized by the end of the week.

I never get tired of this topic. My top ten films have also been given a lot of thought. My top 25 list was tough to put together. Because my 25 films that i consider to be the best, could all make the top 10, but my top ten are all iconic films in my mind. Here are mine. And I accept any comments.
1. Jaws
2. E.T.
3. JFK
4. American Beauty
5. Raiders of the Lost Ark
6. The Empire Strikes Back
7. Halloween
8. Aliens
9. The Matrix
10. Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
Films that did make the top ten but are somewhere in my top 25 include Pulp Fiction, Back to the Future, Star Wars, Usual Suspects, T2 and Mississippi Burning.

Interesting top ten, baumer. I can't say any of those films will have a spot on mine, but you've got some titles on there I love. Specifically, ET, American Beauty, Raiders, Halloween, Aliens, and Fellowship. All are A grade films in my book.
Jaws would probably make my top ten all time overrated films list. JFK is okay, but I'm not a big fan of Stone's style. I'm not a big Star Wars fan, but I can agree that Empire is the best of the bunch. The Matrix is a pretty great science fiction film. Too bad the sequels kind of soiled it.

It's difficult to come up with one. I'll figure one out soon, though.

Great list. Although I find E.T. a taaad bit overrated, I love the rest (minus JFK, which I haven't seen).

Nice commentary makeshift. I've always respected your opinion on film. JAWS is the one true film that I cannot find a flaw in. I have seen in literally 200 or so times. It is a completely terrifying film for me and I think it is easily Spielberg's finest work. I look forward to seeing yours.
And on a side note, ironically, I never cried in ET when I was a kid, but at the age of 30, I balled my eyes out. Go figure.

Only The Matrix would find its way into my Top 10 out of your list. It'd be around #6 or #5 even.
Jaws and Aliens are wonderful. Both would be in my all-time Top 25 which is already good enough.
Raiders and American Beauty are both great films...just noit my favorites. But high up there.
FOTR and Empire Strikes Back are good, but slightly overrated. I prefer A New Hope and ROTK by much. Both are in my all-time Top 25.
E.T. and Halloween are among the most overrated films ever.
It's too long ago that I have seen JFK to comment...

Great list also. Scarface, while not my fave, is a highly re-watchable film. Shcindler's List is top 25 for me as is Shawshank and Usual Suspects. Love Braveheart and Close Encounters. Godfather is one of my all time over rated films, but still very good.

This requires a lot of filmwatching, the last one is outdated and based on my perception of about 3-4 years ago. I'll make one eventually.
#1 is Jurassic Park
Bar none.
Certain films to get into it:
L.A. Confidential
X2: X-Men United
Spider-Man
Se7en
Hannibal
The Matrix
Need to think on the rest.

1-Aliens
2-Serenity
3-T2
4-Drop Dead Gorgeous
5-Scream 2
6-Kill Bill Vol 2
7-Scream
8-Kill Bill Vol 1
9-Jurassic Park
10-Pleasantville
11-Alien
I think it is pretty clear from that list what a couple of my favorite franchises are, but only if you think really hard.
I had to redo the top 5 a bit, only because as time went on i realized that Aliens is still my #1 and as much as i love Serenity, Aliens is special.
Scream fell a few places, and Scream 2 soared up as i really do like the second one better. It had a better pace, i liked the music better (Dewey's theme is fantasitic, and i look forward to it. Yes, i know it was originally from Broken Arrow but i thought it suited Scream 2 and Dewey worlds better) and i thought everyone did a bang up job, Mrs Loomis.
Pleasantville has never even been in my top 20 before, but i realized as i made this list up that i watch it pretty frequently and it still gets me all teary.
Also, if i ever find anyone who loves Drop Dead Gorgeous as much as me i just might have to marry that person.

Very interesting idea. I definitely have to cut out several films if I limit it to only the movies I have seen roughly 5 times (I'm estimating as I never really kept score).
The only thing about it, is that I am MUCH more likely to see a comedy 5 times before a drama. So, while I love films like Lost in Translation or Spirited Away, I'm less likely to watch those 5 times. Thus, my list would be very comedy-centric.
Top Ten (only movies I have seen at least 5 times):
1. The Matrix Trilogy
2. Dumb and Dumber
3. Memento
4. Office Space
5. Swingers
6. Run Lola Run
7. The Jerk
8. Back to the Future
9. Dark City
10. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
