Also, I'm expecting Goal! to get a huge cut in theater counts when actuals come out. If it was in anything over 800, I think we would have got.

Art School is opening in at least 800 theaters this weekend (technically wide).

Screen counts for new releases in Annapolis, MD...

~3~

POSEIDON (14 Showings)

~1~

JUST MY LUCK (5 Showings)
ART SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL (4 Showings)

Strange... No GOAL! THE DREAM BEGINS. I wouldn't be surprised if it ended up in many less theatres than the 1000+ estimated.

Advance Sales Update...

X-MEN 3 and DA VINCI are actually neck and neck with 18 tickets for X and 20 for Da.

Amusingly enough, Boondock Saints has 20 tickets sold already for its one night show on May 21st

Zippo for POSDN....but one of my theatres did a wom screening and did just about 250 (out of 500) which isn't end of the world, but isn't great either.

Being able to sell 20 tickets this much in advance at notfabio's theater is pretty impressive. Great for X-Men 3 too since it's opening a week behind.

Tigard 11 has Poseidon on two screens with ten shows, MI3 on two screens with eight shows, and Just My Luck/Goal on one screen each with five and four shows each. Color me really impressed with Poseidon, they usually only have BIG movies on two screens. The Pioneer Square 6 also has it on two screens with 10 shows. Wow, they're at a lot of good times too. I really think the movie's length could help it out too. We're used to these blockbusters that run well over 2 hours, and the length allowing more showings could definitely help.

Poseidon will have 3 screens, while Just My Luck and Goal! will both have one. No Art School Confidential. M:I3 keeps four.

At My theater.

Poseidon opens on 3 1/2 prints and 5 screens. Confused yet? Well, it has three screens all day, plus one interlock (this is where the fifth screen comes from). Plus, it has two showtimes at night (where the half comes from). This makes it a total of 16 showtimes.

Also
Just My Luck opens on 2 screens (10 showtimes)
Goal! The Dream Begins is on 1 screen (4 showtimes)
Art School Confidential is on 1 screen (5 showtimes)
Keeping Up with the Steins also opens here (5 showtimes)
Saving Shiloh opens here too (only 3 showtimes, in the day)

Holdovers
MI3 stays on 5 screens (but no interlock) (20 showtimes)
Hoot drops to 1 screen (3 showtimes only, in the day. Poseidon takes this theater night).
Amercian Haunting stays on 1 screen (but w/o the interlock) (6 showtimes)
The Promise is reduced to only 2 showtimes (at night, where the Saving Shiloh theater is)

United 93, Akeelah, RV, Silent Hill, Scary Movie 4, and Ice Age drop to 1 screen.
The Wild, Inside Man, Stick It, Sentinel, and Thank You for Smoking remain on 1 screen.
Lucky Number Slevin and La Mujer have to share a screen.

Losing
Take the Lead, Hard Candy.

Openers:
Art School Confidential - 1 screen (5 showings)
Keeping Up with the Steins - 1 screen (6 showings)
The Lost City - 1 screen (4 showings)
Poseidon - 3 screens (12 showings)

Holdovers:
Akeelah and the Bee - 1 screen (5 showings)
An American Haunting - 1 screen (6 showings)
Hoot - 1 screen (5 showings)
Ice Age: The Meltdown/Friends with Money - 1 screen (4 showings/2 showings)
Mission: Impossible III - 4 screens (16 showings)
RV - 1 screen (5 showings)
Scary Movie 4 - 1 screen (5 showings)
The Sentinel - 1 screen (4 showings)
Silent Hill - 1 screen (4 showings)
Stick It - 1 screen (4 showings)
United 93 - 1 screen (5 showings)

It looks as if none of the theaters in the chain (Muvico Theaters) will be getting Just My Luck for some very strange reason.

Hoot looks to be shedding showings like crazy. Look for a 50+% drop.

Hoot will break Gigli's theater drop record for sure on its third weekend.

It should, but how many theaters will Hoot lose this weekend?

None, because theaters are required to keep it, even if it's only one show per day at the smallest screen.

My theater has gotten rid of films after only a week. AKEELAH & THE BEE is one that comes to mind.

I don't recall it ever happened with a 3,000-theater release.

Good for the openers. I have a feeling that Keeping Up with the Steins and Goal will be downgraded after Friday. It is strange that MI3 is getting downgraded this much. I am working till 7 on Friday.

This is pretty unrelated but I didn't want to make a thread for it. Who is the writer of 'Hoot?' On IMDB there is no writer lister which is something I've never seen before. They don't even credit Carl Hiassen for his book.

I believe WIll Shriner wrote it as well.. something happened on IMDB recently where a bunch of May movie credits got knocked off their movies... happened to X-Men: Last Stand, too.
