Looks like a second disappointing summer start in a row because Poseidon is not opening above $35 million either. The Da Vinci Code won't have a huge start either, so it will probably be X3 with the first $65+ million start this summer.

Guess I was right about MI3 afterall right, I guess its gloating time for me. Enjoy your Kinky Boots selection if you choose option b instead

Oh and next year Simpsons wont make over 150 million too

Where's bj and bkb? Though to be fair i thought it could do 75m opening weekend.
I wonder if this summer we are going to be in store for opening weekend dissapointments from the other big films like superman returns, x3, pirates 2, davinci code, and suprises like poseidon and miami vice. It's going to be an interseting summer.

Thats in line with what I was expecting at the beginning of the year for MI3 - but recently it sure did look like making more than $60m opening. Still Summer 06 should be saved by DaVinci, X3, Cars, Click and Pirates. I hold little hope for Poseiden or Superman. Wait till Summer 07 that will demolish everything.

I get the feeling that audiences have outgrown the non sci-fi/non comic book "action" film that was so big in the 90s. Really apart from the Bourne Series, the guns and explosions actioner hasnt had a major hit since what? Bad Boys 2??

Still maybe MI3 can salvage $140-150m. Dissapointing yes. A Bomb - No. Or atleast not yet.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Poseidon outgrossed all of the other big May releases (barring Over the Hedge, perhaps).

Poseidon won't top $35 million opening weekend, IMO.

If MI3 fails to make $50m I cant see how Poseidon opening more than $40m. Its the start of summer 04 all over again. MI3 = Van Helsing, Poseidon = Troy. Seriously, Troy was hyped and highly anticipated and then opened less than $50m.

What's wrong with Troy's opening? It's an R-rated epic. 47m was great, it just didn't have any legs.

I disagree with your "outgrown" assessment - I'm sure there's a big BO bonanza waiting, if anyone can produce a quality actioner...

Its funny, if MI3 did top $47.7 m this weekend, it would still be Paramount's 3rd biggest opening ever. They are just that far behind the rest I guess...

Now that would be a LONGGGGG shot. X3 has got it in the bag. I'll give ya second place for Poseidon.

Its basically what im inferring - audiences have outgrown the mindless actioners they used to flock to - hence why the Bourne series is thriving. Even thought critics seem to be kind to MI3, auds dont seem to be warming to it as much.

Perhaps the opening wasnt the problem, my wrong. Overall gross was the problem.
