I wouldn't call an opening in the vicinity of MI2's a huge disappointment...

It did alright. Not the best summer kickoff ever, but certainly not the worst (Kingdom of Heaven) either.

It looks on track fr about $45-50M. A little disappointing, to be sure, but certainly not terrible...

I knew American Haunting could get at least a 4,000 PTA.

And Hoot is embarassing.

Not surprising for MI3 considering crowd reports, yahoo, etc. Disappointing obviously, I wonder if Poseidon could possibly manage a better opening next week? I'm thinking that's a big no but you never know.

and wow that's a terrible number for Hoot, I didn't think it would break out like Holes but I wasn't expecting a complete bomb.

Less then Van Helsing? Imagine what the media is gonna say about THAT.

I'm just mad we'll have to suffer through the media talking about the downfall of Cruise.

Are you kidding me? That would translate into about a 45-47 mill opening. That is massively disappointing. That means the film will struggle to make 120 mill. With the big guns coming out ever weekend for the rest of the summer, this film is doomed. This is a massive calamity for Cruise!!

The fact that it did less than Van Helsing doesn't make the opening terrible or awful like I've seen some people proclaiming, though. It's not like Van Helsing bombed.

I guess I just think a lot of people here have started to get too negative about everything.

Come on Libs, 45 mill for a film that was said to do more than 200 mill is a shocking suck-ass total no matter how you look at it. It's not like this is a Merchant-Ivory film launching the summer season. This is Tom-Fucking-Cruise. This just bodes even better for DaVinci Code!!

Its still nearly half of what tracking had at one point. The media is going to rip it to bits simply for that.

And Van Helsing didn't have much of a fanbase going in. MI3 did.

What does this mean for Posieden, anywho?

I never thought Poseidon was going to do much more than $35M, personally.

I think this just means Tom Cruise's bubble just burst in the domestic Box Office ... nothing more.

I think Poseiden will truly launch the summer with more than a 50 mill opening.

We'll see about that. It can still make $150m, depending on how the weekend will turn out and its legs later on.

And $150m certainly wouldn't be a disaster, disappointing yes, but not a disaster.

lol i dunno...its good/bad for posiedon, cause itll have less compitition, but now we have to question if people are in that movie mood yet.

but personally ive seen way more poseidon spots then mi3 spots, so maybe poseidon will upstage it;who knows really.

plus mi3 is a great movie. idoubt itll have trouble getting a 3.0 at this point as that only be around 100 million.

but if it gets 17 million friday compared to kong and batmans 15, and they finished with 49/50 respectivly, mi3 will getting 53 million and drop to 28-30 next weekend.

I would be shocked if that movie made $30M OW.

There was no interest for the free advance screening passes that were handed out yesterday.

Looks like a second disappointing summer start in a row because Poseidon is not opening above $35 million either. The Da Vinci Code won't have a huge start either, so it will probably be X3 with the first $65+ million start this summer.
