Quote:
Training Day is a 2001 crime/drama film directed by Antoine Fuqua, written by David Ayer and starring Denzel Washington, Ethan Hawke, and Eva Mendes. The film follows two LAPD narcotics detectives over a 24-hour period in the gang neighborhoods of South and East Los Angeles.

The film was a box office success and earned mostly positive critical appraisals. Washington's performance, a departure from his usual roles, was particularly praised, and earned him a Best Actor Oscar at the Academy Awards. This film was the debut of R&B singer Grammy-winner Macy Gray as an actress.

Just finished it up, and I must say, this movie is excellent. Action-packed, exciting, and very cool. Denzel Washington is excellent, and Ethan Hawke does a pretty damn good job playing the rookie cop. This one really surprised me.

My Grade: A-

A pretty average crime drama with a better than average performance from Denzel Washington. Washington is always good, but playing against his typical 'noble' performance is what won him the Oscar. Ethan Hawke was fine, but not Oscar worthy. I rate it a B-.

Completely over-rated. That goes for the movie and Washington's performance. If you wanna see a good dirty-cop movie, go and see NARC (C)

Good movie, but not an excellent one. I liked the grittiness of it and of course, Washington's superb performance. The interaction between him and Hawke was better than in most cop movies, but overall the film is nothing special.

Denzel pulls off a good role, but the movie itself is only bland. If you want "gritty", watch The Shield. Well, the first season at least. I haven't seen any of Seasons 2 or 3.

The movie is solid without ever really shining but Washingtons performance fully merited his Oscar. He is stunning in this.

Theres problems with the films but I adore it. Whenever I'm with friends and we have nothing better to do, I can just pop this sucker in and nobody complains.

It does a good job of presenting a sort of epic, crime-riddled L.A., I think. It's borrowing from Mann and Heat, but it does it well, and Denzel is great in probably his best performance. It's nothing outstanding, but I enjoy watching it.

Lots of haters here, maybe crowd following, who knows.
A from me. This is what a good cop flick should be. Not sure what you would think is better.
Of course people like Algren are full of shit anyway so not like I care.

Starts off slow, but the film ends in a "epic" way.

Denzel goes crazy.

I love it when actors do that.
