As much as I love Lord of the Rings, and will vote for them in my own ballots for the major categories and such, part of me is really hoping that it won't win the biggies, and something will upset, for some surprises and to see what film people would rally behind if they were bent on beating Lord of the Rings out.
It will be interesting. The passion voting system allows for the smaller known, but more passionate films, to break through, so anything can happen.
PEACE, Mike.

I've said it before but I really think this is such an interesting concept!
I already made my ballot but will wait to turn it in to see if some of my thoughts change.

The only reason why LOTR MIGHt not win this one easily is because there will be split votes between FOTR and ROTK. If it was just ROTK, it'd be a clear, clear winner.
I am still baffled that Million Dollar Baby made it into the Top 10. I mean, I know that Before Sunset has its small, but distinct fanbase here, but M$B..hmmm...
Interesting that CTHD got four noms, but not for BP.
Anyway, I suppose I should see Adaptation and Memento before voting. Haven't seen them yet...

Biggest Surprises
I'm not sure how this happened--but the best director category may have a higher gross average than best picture. I'm not saying collection of non-blockbusters is a bad thing--it just strikes me as a totally odd anomoly, considering the director's category seems to have more.
Natalie Portman as overall best actress, and managing two slots? How the hell did this happen? While I think she's pulled in a good performance every now and she's alarmingly inconsistent, and I think she'll be singled out as the biggest wtf of a list of nominees I think most of us could be happy with.
Day After Tomorrow making it into the best special effects. It's not that the effects are bad, but it doesn't really have a loyal fanbase behind it, or the name recognition of Stephen Spielberg.

You definitely should see both, especially the latter.

See, the thing is, I would have seen it long ago, but someone spoiled the ending for me which diminished my interest in the film considerably since this is the kind of an ending that should not be spoiled beforehand...

I think (or I hope, at least) that Eternal Sunshine might surprise in the Picture/Director categories... just saw it again today, and it's still as brilliant as ever... my #2 of that year, but my #1 choice from that list

Well, M$B did win the 2004 WOKJ Motion Picture Awards against Eternal Sunshine and Kill Bill 2 (while Before Sunset wasn't nominated). So it would probably be the 2004 movie with the most votes here, except the passion factor of the ranking system will probably change things.

Yeah, but you see, 2004 it was very much fresh in minds of people. I am quite sure that in the same awards now with more people having seen all the films, it would never win against these two.

Well, for me, the large part of enjoyment didn't come from the ending, but with how everything is structured and how it forced me to think through the sequence of events afterward. In some ways, it's like The Usual Suspects in that the repeat-viewing value didn't diminish even when knowing the whole story.

I think Frida REALLY deserved a score/music nomination...although other than that great choices (not sure about natalie portman getting two nominations, but i did vote for her for closer )
Hope moulin rouge can pull some kind of upset!!! wishful thinking?
Oh and no Catalina Sandino Moreno either
And Naomi Watts for 21 Grams instead of Muholland Dr. ?
I'll stop looking at the nominations now or i'll find more

I'd really like to see a non-LOTR movie win and I'm a huge fan!
I do think that FOTR and ROTK might split it though most will vote for ROTK and it could very well end up winning and I'd actually be quite upset at that rather than indifferent.
If they do split, I see 3 movies having a possibility of winning...
Kill Bill Vo. 2: It definitely has more widespread support rather than just the passion index thing going for it plus only one volume was nominated, so it's easier for people to rally behind it as representing the entire KB film.
Before Sunset: I really don't think this is wishful thinking because if the passion index will help any film actually beat LOTR or Kill Bill it will be Before Sunset.
Eternal Sunshine: The passion index will help this alot too but I just don't see it winning over the other 2 mentioned above.
All the others are too widespread and will split the votes or not garner enough passion behind them.

This is why we needed an animated film category - no Incredibles, and only two animated films even mentioned.
