Just wanted to add my 5 cents and put it up for discussion: just because you are offended by a joke, does not make the person who tells it racist. They simply may find it funny.

and jsut because you don't find it funny does not mean that the person who created it didn't. it also does not mean that there were others out there who didn't find it funny too.

It should be UNlocked. Who the hell said anything about not allowing someone to post in it anyways? The idea was to encourage people to STOP of their own accord. The locking is even worse than the telling of the jokes.

There's a fine line between laughing at a joke because it illuminates the nature and history of the jokester as much as the subject of the joke itself. Hence context; which is woefully missing right off the bat, in that thread which puts the "less" back into "tasteless."

Anyone who crosses that line doesn't need to be hand held though, big boys can decide for themselves what exactly they're laughing at, and so can we.

Yes, but why do they find it funny? Is it the tone of voice the jokester was using? Perhaps said jokester was mugging like Jim Carrey whilst saying it. No? Then what else could there be?

Like I said in the thread, Sommie's Brokeback analogy was flawed. Laughing at a racist joke may not mean you're racist any more than enjoying Brokeback Mountain means you're gay, but at the very least it implies that you probably condone the act.

I'd never begrudge someone the right to tell a joke, however much I may disagree with its content. In fact, I demand the thread's reopened! But you gotta wonder, when people resort to using racial and cultural stereotypes to tell a joke instead of good old stalwarts such as sex-starved nuns and dead babies... something in this world has gone terribly, terribly wrong.
