Report: Bush plans to nuke Iran sites
Here's an important little news story. Time will tell how true it is. It's not exactly reassuring.
-------------------
"The Bush administration is planning to use nuclear weapons against Iran, to prevent it acquiring its own atomic warheads, claims an investigative writer with high-level Pentagon and intelligence contacts.
President George W Bush is said to be so alarmed by the threat of Iran's hard-line leader, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, that privately he refers to him as "the new Hitler", says Seymour Hersh, who broke the story of the Abu Ghraib Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal.
Some US military chiefs have unsuccessfully urged the White House to drop the nuclear option from its war plans, Hersh writes in The New Yorker magazine. The conviction that Mr Ahmedinejad would attack Israel or US forces in the Middle East, if Iran obtains atomic weapons, is what drives American planning for the destruction of Teheran's nuclear programme.
Hersh claims that one of the plans, presented to the White House by the Pentagon, entails the use of a bunker-buster tactical nuclear weapon, such as the B61-11, against underground nuclear sites. One alleged target is Iran's main centrifuge plant, at Natanz, 200 miles south of Teheran."

Any news story that involves the word "president" preceding "Bush" is not exactly reassuring...
(Waits for some to make an incredibly stupid/dirty/raunchy/random sentence using the two words together)

I feel sorry for whoever inherits the presidency from Bush in 2008.

Holy. Fuck.
Despite America's public commitment to diplomacy, there is a growing belief in Washington that the only solution to the crisis is regime change. A senior Pentagon consultant said that Mr Bush believes that he must do "what no Democrat or Republican, if elected in the future, would have the courage to do," and "that saving Iran is going to be his legacy".
Btw, Hersh's original piece in the New Yorker is well worth a read as well.

Seriously there are still soilders being blown up in Iraq, maybe bringing them home and giving them a break might be a kind of priority for Bu...oh wait it IS Bush. He thinks soilders are plastic people.

It's probably all the media's fault. They focus too much on the negative. You never hear about the countries we AREN'T planning on destroying.

Ohh 2 nuclear stories today.. first North Korea threatens preemtive nuclear strike on US and now US threatens Iran...
All we needs now is Iran to threaten China with Nukes who will then threaten Taiwan who must then attack North korea to finish off this vicious circle.

He figures it will help his poll ratings. You know -- whenever we go to war, a President's popularity goes up (at first). He'll do it just before the election, and then say "You have to support the republicans, because it's war time!"
Remember when the policy of America was never to strike first? You know, the policy we had for oh, our entire existence until President Bush?

The guy who runs Iran is an insane, dangerous nutjob, but I can't bring myself to condone the horrors of nuclear warfare. At all.

Besides the fact that it will probably trigger World War 3

The problem is dumbass Bush invaded the wrong country three years ago out of sheer stupidity. Iran was/is/always will be a threat to civilized society. Iran is the biggest sponsor of terrorisn in the world. Iran unchecked is the biggest threat to Israel and some other non-islamic countries.

While I disagree that nuking them is the best idea, I agree with your post.
Using nuclear weapons against anyone is not a good idea period.
