The Last of the Mohicans is a 1992 historical epic film set in 1757 during the French and Indian War produced by Morgan Creek Pictures. It was directed by Michael Mann and based on James Fenimore Cooper's novel of the same name, although it owes more to George B. Seitz's 1936 film adaptation than the source novel. The main cast includes Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, Russell Means, Wes Studi, Eric Schweig, Steven Waddington and Jodhi May.
The soundtrack features music by Trevor Jones and Randy Edelman, and the song "I Will Find You" by Clannad. The film won an Academy Award for Sound. The main theme of the movie is taken from the tune "The Gael" by Scottish singer-songwriter Dougie MacLean.

One of my all time favorite movies. Daniel Day Lewis is spectacular, and the movie is captivating, moving, informative, and entertaing all at the same time. Michael Mann's second best behind Collateral
A+

Very entertaining movie but I saw a version on DVD that wasn't as good as I remembered it then looked up comments online and people say the DVD is not the version shown in theaters, that they altered a lot of stuff and changed the music.
If anyone has more info on that, please share.

One of the most perfect and best Michael Mann movies ever. The soundtrack is very engaging and the last 10 minutes is one of the best moments you will cherish. My review is short but I just dont have enough words to describe what a masterpiece the movie is

its one of the best "old fashioned" big budget adventure films of the 90s. a B+ sounds about right.

Mann's best movie. He should try more period pieces, rather than his usual guns and cops routine.
I saw this again recently and was reminded how much I liked it when it came out.

One should read the background before seeing the movie... A period piece......
Grade- an eagle...

Grand, epic moviemaking. Still, it's only occasionally stirring and the (admittedly brilliant) ending can cover up only so many of the storytelling flaws. The music is suitably grandiose and DDL fits the role of romantic hero well (as he does so often), but it's far too broad and derivative to remain interesting throughout. It sure doesn't feel like a Mann film.
Regardless, I enjoyed it.

The only epic multi-suicide scene I've ever seen that didn't cause me to roll my eyes. That's saying something. This is quality and one of the best movies of recent times. It's got everything.

Great movie, but Mann's original, now unavailable, cut is superior to the Director's Cut we're stuck with.
It is available in other countries.

It's a very enjoyable movie and DDL is great as usual. The true star of the film though is the score.

Re: The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
I was in Scotland this last summer and heard that end scene played in a bagpipe version and it was just awesome. Definitely one of my favorite tracks. The movie is overall solid, but the material in general is a little below everyone involved. But they elevate it to B+/A- level of solid filmmaking.

Yes, "The Gael" is an excellent, excellent tune.
I went to Scotland 4 years ago and I also heard that version being played on the streets, really loud too, and I was just mesmerised.

It was actually the promentory theme, I can't find it anywhere on youtube though. It was honestly one of the coolest things ever. I tried to buy it off the vendor, he said he couldn't cause he played it nonstop in his store.

"Promontory" is taken from "The Gael".
And both are on YouTube in excessive amounts.

I know, just not in the bagpipe version I heard. It was like a very fast rock version. If you have a link, I'd much appreciate it.
