I wanted a thread of my own, too. Not sure how many people here watch it, but everybody should try it.

I feel like it has it's strong episodes and it's weak ones.
I find some to be laugh out loud funny, and others are "what were you thinking types"
but my brother [19] and mom, both love it, so its still a staple in my household.

I can't wait for the season premiere tonight. My family loves that show. It is hilarious.

Even though I hate most sitcoms, this show has actually made me laugh quite frequently during the several times I have watched it.

Of all the horrible jokes told at last night's Emmys, somehow Jon Cryer defied the odds and was pretty funny. Although, I don't know who wrote the lines, because they obviously forgot Holland Taylor and Conchata Farrell were nominated, so Charlie's "Calm down, we aren't even nominated." line was a little... wrong?

I'm assuming Sheen was referring to him and Cryer.

Other than Arrested Development, this is probably my favorite comedy right now. Love it.

I'll be watching. The season 2 finale was really good.

Still, though. They deserved more nominations, especially more than Will & Grace did. And Everybody Loves Raymond.

For years, Charlie Sheen was my least favorite actor. I couldn't stand him. It's Eastwood's fault, as he directed him in The Rookie, and I just didn't buy him as somebody in league with Clint Eastwood. His small cameo in Ferris Bueller was my introduction to him. He was a punk. That's the vibe I got from him in everything he was in, even Major League, which I absolutely love. (Go Indians!)

It wasn't until he started getting into spoofs and made comedy his bread and butter that I started liking him. I really enjoy this show a lot! His character and I also have something in common now, so that's a plus.

This is just a damn funny show! It's lead in show didn't do much for me.

I found Jake less annoying than in previous years and since that was my one major concern with the show it looks to be a good year. Although for a premiere it was a little disappointing, it's not like the whole 'badly injured person doing day to day activities' hasn't been done before. However it did allow for that hilarious scene with Holland Taylor, that was brilliant.

I liked the premiere. I was waiting for the comedies to come back on. I've been watching drama's until tonight.

I didn't like the premiere all that much, they've had way better episodes. Charlie and Jake in the ghetto Cluckys was gold, and when Ms. Harper came to the door was funny too. Otherwise blah. How I Met Your Mother was better.

Pretty much everything I was thinking. I thought it might have been me, because I haven't watched an actual sitcom (with a studio audience/laugh track) since Frasier. If they want to be the top dog of sitcoms, I hope their future episodes are better. I've seen it before, and laughed quite a bit, so hopefully it wasn't just me thinking this episode was too... blah.

I actually found "Comitted" to be funnier than this. And thats saying something. Jesus god I just want to know, can someone give me a reasonably long-ish explaination that makes some kind of equal ground sense as to why this comedy is popular.
Really? Please?

Comedic Actors with strong Charisma? Nein
Strong, funny and sharp writing? Nein
Characters we care about and can relate to? Nein
Any kind of persisting story arc thats going somewhere? Nein Nein Nein.

If it werent for Everybody Loves Raymond then THIS would be my least favourite comedy ever.

How exactly are we supposed to defend this show if you're just going No, No, No to everything...? So you don't like it. Don't watch it and stop begging for people to tell you why they do.

Disagree mostly on the first 2 bolded above. Charlie Sheen has been recognized and highly praised for Spin City previously and this.

Libs - Im genuinely puzzled as to why people with apparently intelligent [well, some of them] heads on their shoulders can watch comedy thats so insultingly awfully written and basically plays on every basic, dumbed down and idiotic sterotype and device available in a cliched sitcom arsenal. I mean seriously I really can't understand why 16 Million people watch this whilst like 8 million watch Scrubs or even Joey.

Im sure many of us foreigners with an active interest in US television would like to know the appeal of CBS comedies that make them rate so highly despite their quality being nothing short of abysmal. When i heard how well "Men" did I was eager to watch it; it screened after Joey here and the gulf of quality between the mediocre Joey and this was just...insane.

It's obviously a show that's too smart for some people to get. Is there something mentally wrong with you that you watch the show that insults you so much, because the way you're trying to come off like an expert about the show, you must be a regular viewer, and it also sounds like you record it so you can analyze it.

Are you kidding me. It's "too smart"? Seriously now are you kidding me? Because its the clunkiest, most insanely lazy writing ive ever seen in any comedy ever, Raymond aside. If feel like its almost a sketch of every bad sitcom ever.

Ive watched about 4 episodes before/after Joey on a Sunday night. Then i stopped watching it altogether and had an on off affair with Joey.

Oh, I do believe that Holland Taylor (who I've thought was funny ever since Bosom Buddies, with Tom Hanks. ) is definitely a highlight every time she appears, and I hope that she appears often this season, and I believe she'll take the emmy if she does. That's one funny woman.

and so more back-up for Charlie Sheen - not too bad.

Sigh. Let's see, Michael parades in with his one-sided opinion, Libs does her usual "I'm above you" routine (which is like the ultimate showdown with Michael and Libs), Mav gets doubly enjoyment out of seeing A. someone get pissed at Michael, and B. that person be Libs. It's like a generic sitcom.

To call this show "too smart for some people to get" is really a little much. If you're going to insult Michael, insult him. Don't be scared. But, this show is not an intelligent show. Jon Cryer whines, Charlie Sheen shrugs it off, the kid makes a wiseass remark, the audience pisses themselves laughing in the studio. Rinse, repeat. I think the show is great, and it had an off-episode as a premiere, but it's not "too smart for some".

But seriously, guys. Michael, you're my friend, and you're probably my closest friend on the forum, but it's not always appreciated when you come barging in the forum, and start blasting people and their opinion. It's fine to voice your opinion on a show, but when you start blasting the intelligence of the viewers, it does no one any good. Libs... I have no real comment. I'm surprised you said what you did, because it was pretty tame. Usually, you'd blast someone right back without thinking twice. And Mav, I know you hate Michael, and the feeling is reciprocated on his part, but make an effort to avoid him or something. It seems to be the same deal constantly. It doesn't make either of you feel better to constantly bait each other and argue with each other, does it? I doubt it. If you can't bury the hatchet, then at least quit using it. That goes for both of you.

Mr. X, since you decided to decline my advice in my PM to delete that above nonsense, I'm going to offer you some advice of my own. First, shut up with the advice that you decided to offer 4 hours after the fact when everything was over, and spare everybody the psycho analysis you decided to conduct. You're not exactly the best person to analyze anybody's faults. I doubt you'd like me to conduct an analysis of you for past conduct, so refrain from doing things like that in the future, and know when it's best to keep your mouth shut. For instance, four hours after something is over. Think first, then act. You seem to struggle with that sometimes.
