Quote:
Total Recall is a 1990 American science fiction action film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rachel Ticotin, Sharon Stone, Michael Ironside and Ronny Cox. It is loosely based on the Philip K. Dick story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale". Directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Ronald Shusett, Dan O'Bannon, Jon Povill, and Gary Goldman, it won a Special Achievement Academy Award for its visual effects. The original score composed by Jerry Goldsmith won the BMI Film Music Award.

Don't remember it well.

Great movie, but not the best in Schwarzenegger's career. The story was actually fairly good, and the twist was completely unexpected. Overall, a decent action film, though it is certainly showing signs of age. B

Exploding faces, distorted mutants, a head out of a guy's stomach...this is Paul Verhoeven at work here. His movies have this certain distinctive harsh style that is trying to push the boundaries all the time. It works very well in this movie. Arnie is at his best here during the prime of his career. The action is well-made and the movie's plot is interesting and has some surprising twists. Overall a really good watch.

It's really a very fun, imaginative, exciting action movie with possibly Arnie's best performance. Its technology and sets are oddly dated, but in a way that only adds to the charm, IMO.

Probably the best movie Arnold ever made, unless I'm forgetting something wonderful. I don't think I am.

T2......The FX are undeniably brilliant, but.....eh.

It's certainly effective, though. Can't argue with that. I've had recurring nightmares about the T-1000 for the last 14 years.

The FX for the time was awesome. Paul Verhovan directs the film and he doesn shy away from gore, its surprising how much FX you can show at the time at a 40 million budget compared to FX budgets for Van Helsing at 170 million. Arnold does his best playing the hero who has his memories implanted

This was actually good.

This and Basic Instinct are perhaps the only acceptable movies Paul Verhoeven has ever made.

Yoshue and Arthur touched on the two reasons that set TR apart from other action pictures - the futuristic, yet dated production design, which makes it all the more interesting to watch.... and the harsh tone - the gore, the dark, unsettling scenery and the ominous score make make for pretty great action film. I'm glad to own it.

Solid Sci-Fi movie. Perhaps the peak of Paul V's career.

Starting with Predator, Arnold became believe it or not the most reliable actor giving audiences what they wanted, with better than expected stories. Ending of course with True Lies. the best mars movie to date, and even though its not as brilliant as say Blade Runner, it is a great adaption of a Phillup H Dick story in my opinion. Great action, humor, effects, and actually quite gritty.

Arnolds Peak of his career included Predator, The Running Man, Twins, Total Rekall, Kindergarten Cop, T2, True Lies, and the very underrated Last Action Hero. That was a great 7 years to be alive and over the age of 17, unfortunately I was only born when Predator came out.

About as far from the abstract style of Phillip K Dick as you could possible get, Total Recall is the cinematic equivalent of a massive ball of lunatic patients running around without supervison. Its so unashamedly 80s in every way, big sets, big hair, OTT action and more flying blood then you'd find in a triage centre its pop culture trash covered in a thinking mans coat. I do love this movie thou in case you think otherwise, I'm a sucker for a number of sub-genre's and 80s dumb muscle cinema is one of them.

And the man who came up with a 3 titted women, warped genius.

Probably my favourite Verhoeven and definitely one of Arnie's best roles. Just endlessly creative and innovative.

TOTAL RECALL(Not the upcoming remake bullshit) is about as flawless as it really gets and Sharon Stone in her prime was a sight to behold.. Nothing more satisfying than seeing her and the other chick slug it out before Arnold bumps her off.. Best scene in the movie was on the escalator when Schwartzenegger was using that guy as a shield during that gunfight.. :grrr: That dude must've been shot something like 40 or 50 times and was swiss cheese when it was over.. I hope he went quick and didn't feel it..

**1/2 / ***** (C-)

I wasn't a fan of this when I was a kid. The hooker with three tits was the only thing I actually remembered. I didn't expect much going into it again, but I was surprised by how dated it is. Visually it's still good and believable, but the typical 90'a action movie writing and oneliners (no matter how punny they are) do not go well with a great PKD premise that's been fucked up both times now.

Also Sharon Stone stole the show. Schwarzenegger who?
