Hehe, 16M for See No Evil. It will probably do that for the entire run.

The second half of May is looking better and better each day.
Though Van Helsing and Troy are looking to be much bigger than MI3 and Posiedon, and nothing will come close to Shrek 2.
We'll need some Bourne Supremacy-esque surprises to make up for it.

Wow, big leap for DVC. And that is waaaaay too high on See No Evil. I have it at $3M opening weekend right now (Alone in the Dark 2, IMO).
And wow, Poseidon crashed.

VERY nice for Da Vinci Code. Seriously, everyone I know wants to see this, it seems. I can't see this making less than $70 million opening weekend. It will be BIG.
Not suprised by Poseidon's low tracking number. There is ZERO anticipation for it around here. I personally think it looks like kind of lame.
Good for The Break Up too. I think this will be a big rom-com hit.

RS Future must be smoking something if they think See No Evil will open to 16 million, it will do as badly as Bloodrayne.X-3 looks little too low IMO

Early Predictions
1. Poseidon - $24.5 million
2. Mission: Impossible 3 - $21.5 million
3. Just My Luck - $12.5 million
4. R.V. - $7 million
5. Stick It - $3 million
6. United 93 - $2.5 million
7. An American Haunting - $2.5 million
8. Akeelah and the Bee - $2 million
9. Goal! The Dream Begins - $2 million
10. The Sentinel - $1.5 million
Lots of films in the derby this weekend with $2-3 million grosses. Don't know if that'll be good or bad.

I think with Poseidon providing only small competition, M:I-3 might drop no more than 45%.

Haha, I seriously doubt the female count will match the male for See No Evil.

Those numbers for Da Vinci are amazing. 99% awareness among 35+, with 64% interest? Great.

Someone must be ribbing the analysts at the office about See No Evil's number or maybe its Vince Mcmahon trying to jack up the stock for his movie so it doesnt look like an XFL failure

It's still an impressive number, nonetheless. Those tracking numbers for Da Vinci Code are indeed AMAZING (especially among the 20-35 demo. WOW!)

The marketing/commercials for The DaVinci Code have been really impressive, in my opinion. I continually hear that radio commercial which says something like "Is the catholic church keeping the great secret ever held?" and stuff like that, and then goes on to advertise The DaVinci Code movie.
And I never thought people would go this far, but there are actually idiots asking for people to boycott the film because they find it offensive. *sigh* In any event, this has been added publicity, at least on my news around here talking about it.
So I would not be surprised at all with a $70+ million weekend.
PEACE, Mike.

No way See No Evil will open to 16 million against The Da Vinci Code and Over the Hedge.
Realistically, the best it can hope for are numbers similar to The Devil's Rejects.

On the plus side, Poseidon is rising on the Buzz Chart. It's #15 still, but the score is 9. Mission: Impossible III didn't even hit the chart until Wednesday. It's also on Moviefone early, which is good.

I highly doubt that Poseidon only makes $21 million this weekend. The problem with tracking is that as soon as you bring in other movies, it changes everything because you're then polling people on which movie they want to see more, and in this case X3 has been added into the mix. Of course, people will want to see Da Vinci Code and X3 more than Poseidon...but since neither will be out on Friday, there's a fine chance that they'll go see Poseidon instead. It's doubtful that BOTH awareness and interest dropped that much closer to release because that almost never happens. (More people become aware of a movie as it gets closer to release.)
A lot of the $25 million movies this past spring didn't appear on Moviefone until Weds and Thursday and yet Poseidon has shown up there earlier today (Monday)...it's also on the Yahoo Buzz meter already and probably will climb even higher as it gets closer to Friday. I highly doubt that it will make less than $30 million and it probably will make closer to $35-37.

And that's another thing... Reel Source had Da VInci at $48 million last weekend and MI3 at $77 million... so what changed this week? MI3 was no longer a factor, so suddenly, there was more interest in Da Vinci. (Also, MI3 was overpredicted being a sequel, which is common with those RS tracking #s)

Also, didn't they say that Perfect Storm would do only 23 million before opening? The same thing could happen to this.

I bet if M:I 3 had opened up to over $80M we'd be seeing lots of $50M Poseidon predictions.
$40M sounds about right, all movies with big tidal waves open around that amount.

You know, I kinda get that feeling. The tracking is not congruent to the vibe I'm getting. Judging from the people I know and reading posts on other sites (such as HSX), many are planning on seeing Poseidon. I think RS may be lowballing it since they blew MI: 3 so bad last week. Poseidon may not be the $50M+ blockbuster WB was hoping for, but I don 't think it will wimp out and bomb, either.
