Typical Hollywood fare. Nice cast and technicals but the story gets bogged down by too many twists and turns. The ending seemed too sci-fi-ish. B.

That's actually one of the reasons why I thought the movie was great.

I saw this last week.It was surprisingly good.Better than The Illusionist , which isn`t saying much , since i didn`t like the Illusionist.

But it`s not much of a magic movie , it just comes down to a game of Who`s Who.
I wouldn`t call this movie a well executed magic trick.

The start of the movie was great , with Borden and Angier fighting off , destroying each other`s tricks.

But when the "machine" , and all the philosophy behind it , come into play the movie just get`s a little too surreal.
Which is quite a turn off since one thing is magic and the other is reality.And when they say "real magic" it just sounds stupid to me.

After the first 30-45 minutes i thought this was gonna be i well crafted , inteligent movie but instead it took a wrong turn into the science-fiction realm.

I would give it a B+ for what it was , but when i think of what it could have been , i bring it down to a B-

A very good observation. I liked Batman while watching it but a day later, had no desire to see it again.

Anyway, I just watched this on DVD and enjoyed it and didn't see the twin thing coming but knew there had to be something. But now that I have seen it, I have no great desire to view it again. Still, well made and thumbs up and all that.

I've seen this for the third time now and it still is as excellent as ever. My number 2 of last year (behind you-know-what) but it's easily in my top 25 of all time.

For me, it's not the twists that make this film so great, but the way the film is laid out. The narrative structure is flawlessly implemented, and makes the entire film seem like a magic trick. The themes about sacrifice and the cost of knowledge are perfectly fitting, and the whole thing is just beautiful to look at. I really can't praise it enough.

I love it as well. In fact, I found it to be a better movie upon repeat viewings. Originally I had it at ***1/2, but after 3 more viewings, I'll put it at ****.

I love examining the characters' actions after I already know what the twist is, kind of makes things more complicated.

(by the way, that makes 3 **** star movies for me from Nolan)

I think it is fair to say that he is currently my favorite director. By far.

I have yet to see Memento and Insomnia, but Batman Begins and The Prestige were both solid A's in my book and ended up in the Top 5 of their respective years.

The Prestige is quite a ride. I did see the twist involving Jackman's character and his trick, Bale's "trick" was completely mind-boggling. The former still worked though. Even when it was revealed I didn't feel gypeed - such is the power of Nolan's direction. A solid A-.

Can't beleive I never saw this until now. Truly excellent film and Nolan's direction is spot on. I loved how he gave the big answer so early on but thru mis-direction left me completely flat-footed.

An all timer, and I'm pretty sure it falls right in your tastes lap... get to it!

You see...the problem is, ever since the ending of Memento was spoiled to me, I just lost some interest

I would suggest watching it still. The ending is a surprise, but the film far from relies on it, and the ending isn't what the film's about. It doesn't affect it any more than The Usual Suspects(which landed in my top 10 despite knowing the ending, from personal experience, by the way) or Fight Club. If anything watching the screenplay, editing, originality of the layout, etc. alone is worth it for any film buff.

The Prestige > Memento

I'll definitely check out Memento in near future, maybe in a double feature with Insomnia.

That will be one kick ass double feature.

I have now purchased Memento. Need to get Insomnia and nothing stands in my way for a Nolan double feature.

Yeah, but the point is that I have seen The Prestige and BB already (graded both an A, both ended up in the Top 5 of their respective years), but haven#t seen the ones above : )

The Illusionist was the better magic movie last year.

Nolan is indeed a good director. You'll like both Memento and Insomnia - but i suspect Memento more. Personally I think The Prestige is the best of the lot.

Up to an A now, after rewatching it a while ago. I love this movie.

Another solid nolan movie. Loved the twists and acting was solid. A

But I still prefer memento bcos that stunned me in my 1st view.

Chris Nolan is the best Director of all time. Prestige slightly edges out BB, but doesn't touch Memento or TDK.
