So, um, I guess I can start? I don't think I can top Argos' list, though....

100. SUPERMAN (Richard Donner, 1978)"There's a strong streak of good in you, Superman. But then nobody's perfect... almost nobody." This was my favourite movie as a kid. I just had a crappy VHS copy, and I used to watch it over and over again. It was so crappy that entire scenes of the movie were lost to white noise, but I still loved the film. When I bought the DVD, I was finally able to watch the entire film, and it was just as magical as I remembered it. The sequels may be shit, but the original is classic and the first great comic book movie.

99. FANTASIA (various, 1940)"What you're going to see on the screen are the designs and pictures and stories that music inspired in the minds and imaginations of a group of artists. In other words, these are not going to be the interpretations of trained musicians, which I think is all to the good."This was the first movie I saw in theatres, with a reissue in 1990. I was only 3, but I was captivated by the film. My dad fell asleep, but I stayed awake throughout the entire thing. I guess because it was just music and animation, no story, characters, or dialogue, it was easy for a three-year-old to do so, but I still love the film today. In my opinion, the best of the classic Disney animated films (as in, pre-1980).

98. ERASERHEAD (David Lynch, 1977)"In Heaven, everything is fine."I just saw this for the first time a few months ago, but it blew me away. My gut reaction varied between giving it an A and an F. I don't think I understood any of it, but the visuals and sounds were so striking that I couldn't help but love the film. I've yet to see the rest of Lynch's films, save for The Elephant Man, but if this one is any indication, I'm sure I'll love most of them.

97. NORTH BY NORTHWEST (Alfred Hitchcock, 1959)"Now you listen to me, I'm an advertising man, not a red herring. I've got a job, a secretary, a mother, two ex-wives and several bartenders that depend upon me, and I don't intend to disappoint them all by getting myself 'slightly' killed."One of Hitch's classics. Terrific set pieces (the crop duster sequence is still one of the best action scenes of all time), sharp screenplay, great actors, and, of course, fantastic direction. It's basically just a straight-forward thriller, but it does it oh-so-well.

Excel wrote: beautiful #100 & #98 choices; but superman 2 is superb dude You like Eraserhead? Really? Superman 2 is one of those films where I'm completely baffled as to why others think it's so great. It's got some great moments, but the whole film stinks of re-shoots and crappy editing and it's campy beyond belief. It's as bad as Batman & Robin at times.

North by Northwest is, of course, a great inclusion.
And your assessment of Superman 2 is spot on.

96. AMERICAN GRAFFITI (George Lucas, 1973)"It only took me one night to realize if brains were dynamite you couldn't blow your nose."Though I find both Fast Times at Ridgemont High and Dazed & Confused to be much funnier, this is the superior high school movie because of its heart. This is one of the few films that truly touch on how hard it is to leave high school behind and go into the real world. It's amazing that George Lucas could go from this to "I don't like sand".

95. THE LION KING (Roger Allers + Rob Minkoff, 1994)"It's like my buddy Timon always says: you got to put your behind in your past."My favourite of the Disney animated flicks of the 80s + 90s. The songs are great, the animation is top-notch for the time, the voice actors are memorable, and the story's take on Hamlet is fantastic. It's hilarious and heart-warming at the same time.

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
94. THE DESCENT (Neil Marshall, 2005)"I'm an English teacher, not fucking Tomb Raider."One of the most purely terrifying films ever made. Even without the monsters, the tension that develops from the claustrophobic setting is incredible. And once the monsters are introduced, it's game over. The characters are developed well, despite the short running time, and the ending is pure brilliance. Not the butchered American ending, though, but the original European ending. Of course.

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
93. ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN (Alan J. Pakula, 1976)"Now hold it, hold it. We're about to accuse Haldeman, who only happens to be the second most important man in this country, of conducting a criminal conspiracy from inside the White House. It would be nice if we were right."Simply gripping. One of the best detective movies ever made, even though you know how it's going to end. The acting and writing here are as good as it gets; even though it's almost entirely dialogue, the film is never boring. Or maybe it's because of that.

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
92. WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT (Robert Zemeckis, 1988)"I'm not bad. I'm just drawn that way."A great twist on the cartoon formula. The blending of animation and live-action is seamless, and Zemeckis shows that he is a master of technology. The mixing of Disney and Warner Bros. characters is ingenious; I love the bit where Donald and Daffy Duck compete against each other on pianos. It's innovative, clever, interesting, but, most of all, it's funny. Not to mention that Jessica Rabbit is probably the hottest animated character ever put on screen.

Re: KJ User's Top 100 Lists: trixster!
91. DIE HARD (John McTiernan, 1988)"They're gonna need some more FBI guys, I guess."Definitely the greatest high-octane pure action film. This one set the standard for everything following. Willis is iconic and the sharp, witty dialogue balances the action scenes perfectly. Incredibly rewatchable and always entertaining. In my house, this is the Christmas movie tradition.

I figure I'll stop there for tonight. I think I'll do ten a day as long as I can; it should work out well that way.
