Mike, that's not really fair. Swank was phenomenal in Million Dollar Baby.

Winslet can surprise.

Come on, you guys. Would you honestly rather they pick people not as deserving because it's not as "predictable"?
That's not what these award shows should be about.

Yeah, I don't doubt it, but I have my own opinion, and I wanted Winslet to win, because I think she is far due, and I've never been a huge fan of Swank. That's solely my opinion, I'm not asking you to share it.
PEACE, Mike

Well, because people like surprises...and because some performances are equally good...

Oh, I know. It's just I don't think they were rewarding her for being an "It Girl" so much as they loved her performance.

Agreed considering she was the best actor in the movie. And noting that both Eastwood and Freeman were good in their roles.

I think it's cool that Tom Cruise and Jada Pinkett Smith are good friends. I find that cute, for some reason. :-#

I tend to agree with Mike on Swank even though I haven't seen Million Dollar Baby. I doubt her performance will blow me away to the point where I believe she absolutely deserves all the awards. She isn't at a level of consistency that deserves two oscars in 6 years. When other performances are equally great, but they have been continuously snubbed and overdue, as Kate Winslet has, I'd rather award them.

You might change your mind after you see the movie - she is just GREAT in the role.

I'd say well-deserved for Cruise, but...isn't he...um...a bit too young?

Wow!
At least that's a semi-surprise. Sideways has finally won a major Best Picture award. I do think that it has a better chance at winning Best Picture now than Milion Dollar Baby at the Oscars.

Wow! Who would have thought it?! This year is interesting in that there is no "film to beat" like there has been in previous years. And now with Sideways winning this, it opens it up even more.

Sideways wins?
Either this is going to be the one year that the BFCA does not match with the Oscars, OR, we all have been wrong and Sideways is indeed going to win the Oscar.
As much as Sideways sweeping everywhere bores me, this is exciting now. This is the first time that I think The Aviator is not a complete lock for the win of Best Picture at the Oscars.
Wow.
PEACE, Mike

At least BFCA is consistent and not trying to guess which direction oscar wind is blowing. If they had given to The Aviator, they had to answer why Sideways didn't win when it won 4 other major awards.

Nice for Sideways but I still think Million Dollar Baby and then the Aviator are better bets than Sideways. As both of the first 2 are movies that the Academy usually likes. But as I liked Sideways, it wouldn't bother me to sneak out a win.
