This film takes American Cartoons to a new level rivaling the maturatity of Miyazaki, but unlike him keeping the more human connections of American cinema and not being too artsy as one would say. It is a film like that that only comes once in a while. A film such as At World's End showcases its brilliance in its artful painting, however a loss of a technical belly. That film was my favorite film of the year. This film came out and my expectations were as high as Ego. They were met, though I am a bit woeful I wasn't there with a bigger crowd to enjoy the humor more. As for a pivital battle against At World's End, it exceeds in brillance by taking in an artful style and managing to hold the techincal brilliance with superior acting and framework that heavly bogged down an otherwise masterpiece in At World's End. This film thus takes the title At World' End could not take on and recieves the distinction as a masterpiece and recieves the "+" few films ever recieve purely from me.

A+

Not just the stats? Sport enthusiasts would care to differ.

Wonderful film, with the best constructed story Pixar has written. It's multi-layered and tells something unique for each of the different relationships (among humans, among rats, between human and rat). Impeccable animations again, great humors, and it has some of the best actions of any films. A definite A.

SpectacuLar, as expected. The animation was pure exceLLence and the best since Finding Nemo. IMO, the way they captured the beauty of Paris animation-wise was just breathtaking and the scenes with Remy searching throughout the ceiLings and narrow waLLs in a Paris buiLding were technicaLLy amazing. Of course, the humor never faiLed to entertain and the voice taLents were top-notch. The human-rat reLationship was presented reaLLy weLL as weLL the human-himseLf reLationship. The soundtrack was great and perfectLy fits the fiLm. Best movie of the year so far.

A+

How come Pixar makes such unfunny films now?

Yeah, Ratatouille is a stunning looking film (probably the best animation I've ever seen), and the characters are great, but seriously, where's the funny? I know someone's gonna say, "if you want comedy, go watch Hot Rod or something, Zingashit," but Finding Nemo and The Incredibles are hilarious films - kids films that are enjoyable as much as they are "quality." Ratatouille is good, but still not quite the Pixar I liked years back.

B

I'd rank 'em:

1. The Incredibles - A-
2. Toy Story - A-
3. Finding Nemo - B+
4. Toy Story 2 - B+
5. Monster's Inc. - B+
6. Ratatouille - B
7. A Bug's Life - B-
8. Cars - F- (well, not really, but it sucked)

Ratatouille had more subtle humor, it wasn't laugh-out-loud hilarious. But that doesn't change its merits, I don't think Brad Bird intended for it to be hilarious.

Also, if you want funny, go watch Hairspray, not Hot Rod. I bet you wouldn't even completely hate it. Actually, I don't see how anyone could hate Hairspray, unless you have no soul. My friend who hates musicals and hated both Chicago and Dreamgirls loved it.

Eh, still. It's just not enjoyable for me otherwise. Even my sister didn't like it (she said it was "okay" but for her, that's equivalent to like an F+).

Truth be told, I kinda want to see Hairspray.

Finally saw it. I'd give it a solid B+. Good story and the ending was really good. I didnt think it was that funny though so that knocks the grade down. Here's how i'd rank the pixar films

1. Toy Story - A
2. Toy Story 2 - A
3. Finding Nemo - A-
4. Ratatouille - B+
5. Cars - B+
6. The Incredibles - B+
7. A Bugs Life - B+
8. Monsters Inc. - B

I still don't understand why people automatically think "funny" just because a movie is animated.

Beauty and the Beast wasn't very funny. The Lion King was pretty funny... but not too funny.

The Incredibles is hilarious? Really? For me, it was the first Pixar film where concerns for quality of story and character really took immediate precedence over concerns for humor. Which was both a positive and a negative for me (but mainly a positive).

Ratatouille, I thought, balanced the two even more effectively than The Incredibles.

I don't think Finding Nemo is a good comparison; I think a better one is The Iron Giant.

But I thought Rataotouille still had some of the funniest moments "Lets do this thing!" was the funniest Pixar moment for me, his presentation and reaction afterwards are golden.

A++

My need to sing this movie's praises outweighed any other thought

I can't believe how much I loved this. I mean I liked Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. and all, but this blows them away. The animation... the characters... the message... the relationships... the ending... oh my. I don't think I've ever seen an animation where I cared about the characters, rat and human, as much as I could in a live-action movie. It is as bradley says - a new border broken in terms of mature animation.

Again, the action scenes, even stuff like Remy climbing those buildings at the beginning or the chase scene onto the boat, brilliant. Bird creates such fluid movement there, wonderful. Oh yeah, and I thought it was maybe Pixar's funniest movie too. The co-workers revelations scene or Ego's early scenes("You look thin for a man who loves food"... "I don't like food, I love it. If I don't love it, I DON'T SWALLOW.") had me falling out of my chair. And again, I was laughing with the characters, not at them in a slapstick way like in most animations.

Best animated movie ever? Probably. Wow.
