I've seen many, many other Asian horrors but those were the cream of the crop. I could always name flicks like Uzumaki, Suicide Circle (or Suicide Club), Junk, Evil Dead Trap, The Happiness Of The Katakuris and many others that I kinda like or others like and I hate...I just hate recommending flicks I don't think are easily accessible, and most of those aren't. Hopefully we'll have time to discuss, debate and dissect many of them.
I understand what you mean. Well, the festival just starts today and I am looking forward to many great discussions.

Just thought I'd jump right in...
I love the first Ju-On (The Curse). The second was very good but spent a tad too much time showing what happened in the first. I disliked The Grudge because it felt like an Americanized version of The Curse.
Dark Water is by far my favorite of all the Asian horrors I have seen. It blew me away, not only the scares (the elevator scenes, the tub, the girl under the desk and the tower...not to mention the freaky bag) but the emotion and heart that flick has. The ending left me drained...I loved it.
You mentioned most of the great ones I've seen other than Kairo (think head scratched like A Tale Of Two Sisters with an even more depressing feel), Bio-Zombie (think the original Dawn Of The Dead mixed with The Return Of The Living Dead) and The Twins Effect (Buffy The Vampire Slayer mixed with Blade 2: make sure you see this and not the reedited version retitled The Vampire Effect).
Nice to meet everyone!!!
Hi MASSIVE...welcome. Feel free to join the apparently massive fan base of horror films on this forum with comments about your favorites. Glad you can join the festival, and I hope you enjoy it thoroughly. What brought you to this lovely *World*?

Lecter, I finally got a chance to rent a movie from here. I rented Ju On: The Grudge. I'll write my thoughts later after watching it.

Saw a week ago the unoriginal and uninspired Asian horror flick "Phone".
Not good enough to make the festival list.
About "Ju On". Don't add the sequel, it was way below the original. I didn't finish it because it was boring and poorly acted.

I finished up Ju On: The Grudge last night. It was almost an exact copy of the one released here, minus the Sarah Michelle Gellar part. It had a lot more blood due to the PG-13 given to the one released here. I did enjoy it, but not as much as the one released here.

I just bought Ju-On:The Grudge 2 a few weeks ago, but I still haven't seen it. I've been distracted by so many other things that I haven't had time for movies. My friend downloaded Ju-On: The Curse 2, but he did it without subtitles so I won't be seeing that one anytime soon.

I guess It is too late too join, right?
Anyway, I have seen six of those movies... Big fan of horror...but asian horror is getting on my nerves lately. I swear I can not take anymore female ghosts with dark long hair covering their face looking for revenge... It gets tiring after a while, and in order to make it different, some movies are becoming a little bit too contrived for my taste (example: A tale of two sisters).
Anyway, I enjoyed a lot "Dark water" - my favourite of the bunch - and "the ring" specially the beginning and ending... Verrry scary.
And if anyone wants to join me in an endless "Audition" bashing, please just say so. I haven´t seen a more laughable movie in a long, long time. Actually, ever. Urg. I am normally not this extreme in my opinions, but that movie was just too much "kiri-kiri-kiri" for me...
Hmmm... Oh, yeah. And hi everybody.

Ciao dar! Welcome. I guess it not since while the festival is over, not very many people particpated anyways.
The threads are remaining open for discussion indefinately, so by all means browse them and comment as you wish. Torri started a Spanish (grouped Latin America and spain together) film festival. So go right in and make yourself at home.
I know Archy comes by and feeds the Australian one on occassion, so I keep responding to those as well. I would talk in this one, but haven't seen any of them.

Thanks a lot Dolce. You are still the sweetest person in any forum...
I´ll check out that thread for sure. About this one, if I had to watch one of those movies, really there is no contest, it´d be "Dark water". And It is not gory at all, in case you have a problem with that - is that why you don´t watch more horror?
Gotta go now. Have a dinner in Chueca... remember? I´ll say Hi to the neighbourhood from you...
