Fallon likely to take over from Conan in 2 years
http://www.broadcastingcable.com/articl ... ?rssid=193
NBC has targeted Jimmy Fallon to replace Conan O’Brien in 2009, according to people familiar with the talks. Fallon is NBC’s favorite to take over from O’Brien, who currently hosts Late Night With Conan O’Brien after The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
A lot more at the link above.
I'm not too impressed with Fallon. He's alright, it could be worse, but I don't see him being much special.

Well, he's not all that great. But he isn't Carson Daley, also. My brother has been wondering about this for years, thinking "No way could Carson Daley take over this slot... could he??"
The man has as much charisma as Box.

I don't dislike Jimmy Fallon, but it was always uncomfortable to watch him as the SNL News anchor as he was always stumbling over the cue cards. Either the dude couldn't read, or he needed glasses.

They should have Fallon and Tina Fey do a spin off of Weekend Update... but Late Night style.

I like Jimmy Fallon, he seems like a likeable guy. But I think he's going to be an awful talk show host. I heard this news a few months ago when he was on Howard Stern. I just don't see him doing the job well at all. He's too nervous when he talks, like he's unsure of himself.

He will be. He is horrible live, I think. He has trouble not cracking up, as can be seen by his work on SNL. (I believe every scene he was in he started to laugh)

Stephen Colbert has trouble not laughing... yet his show is by far better than most shows on TV.

Stephen Colbert is also a billion times funnier than Jimmy Fallon.
If you really want to compare the two, then you're out of the Nation.
Get lost.

Oh no, no comparisons. Just examples of another celebrity that loves to laugh.
Colbert is a billion times funnier than anyone. That is a given.

But Colbert still manages to pull off the straight man act perfectly, despite his penchant for laughing. Fallon can't.

I think often Colbert breaks on purpose to make it more clear to casual viewers that he doesn't believe the things he says so he doesn't get eggs thrown at him in public.

Nah, he lays it on pretty thick and it's pretty obvious to anyone who isn't a moron. He's also had that problem his entire career, even as a correspondent on The Daily Show.

I don't remember that but I'll take your word for it. On the daily show lately it's Jon who breaks. Especially when Hodgeman or Oliver are sitting by him and have good material.

The best is when both Stewart and Colbert start giggling like little girls during the spilt screen thing. That's when it's obvious that this is the first time they are reading the cue cards.

My guess is that it'll either be Fallon, or NBC will pay a penalty to Conan (I've heard up to $40 million) and try to keep Jay on for a few more years. Hopefully it's Fallon/Conan. Or if 30 Rock doesn't live past year two, Tina Fey could be good. I don't see that happening as I think 30 Rock will be on for sometime, but if it did happen, I'd like to see Fey.

In '09 he'll be 47 when Conan gets the gig, and by the time Conan is done with his run (Figure 15-20 years) he'll be in his mid-60's and most likely retired. That is unless NBC's current plan backfires. I do think though that he might have a shot for pretty much the same gig, but on ABC or maybe CBS if Letterman decides to call it quits in the near future.
