The destruction of an acting career
Clearly, no one will remember Lindsay Lohan's supposedly abysmal new star vehicle, I Know Who Killed Me. All anyone will remember about it is that it opened the same week that Lohan really hit rock bottom. At this point, it's doubtful her career will be able to recover from all of this self-destructive behavior.
It's been almost frightening to see how far Lohan's star has fallen since her Freaky Friday/Mean Girls days.
Can anyone else think of any other examples of actors who had such a spectacular flameout in such a short amount of time?

River Phoenix ?
His decline was a tad bit more gradual, but he was huge in Last Crusade and was dead 4 years later, with no extremely popular roles in between.

Unless she gets it together (which with this last incident has about .0001% chance of happening) I fully expect her to be dead in 4 years.

Only one of the Coreys is a junkie.
Rob Lowe's sextape ruined his career for years till he got a role in the West Wing

If she continues to get behind the wheel intoxicated to whichever degree she has a chance of dying. Heck, she crashed her own car not to long ago. I hope she gets her life in gear because she was really good early on with freaky friday and mean girls but somewhere along the way around 18-19 things started going all wrong for her. As for britney, I hope she turns it around too because I actually like her music.

Paul Reubens, although he wasn't really a 'big' star to begin with. But by comparison what he did was pretty harmless and didn't harm anyone or put anyone at risk.

Drew Barrymore is the best example I can think of. She started earlier than Lindsay though, and it took her nearly 10 + years to get it together (career wise).

Macaulay Culkin flamed out pretty quickly. Robert Downey Jr. nearly destroyed his career. He seems to be ok now though.

Uh... She refused a breathelizer when they did the field test. Instead they tried to get her to touch her nose and she tumbled over.

Our education system is crumbling... our health care situation getting worse... but let's talk about a millionaire celebrity's addiction problem. Am I the only one who sees a problem with this? And before you jump on my arse, I'm just as guilty as any of you... On to Lindsey.
The girl is no different from the millions upon millions of other addicts who have these same problems. They're just average people and don't fall into the media crazed circus. Frankly, I'm downright tired of people's addiction problems -- the ones I see in real life and on tv. I try to distance myself from addicts as much as possible because I personally just can't be bothered with it anymore. Honestly, they just wear me the fuck* out.
*Sorry for the expletive, but I'm in the moment.
I'm sure she's probably tried to stop at some point (likely early on), and is continually hoarded by her so-called Hollywood "friends" to do more. In addition, I'd bet that she's also in complete denial, at this point, considering she's pretty deep in the habit now -- that I'd bet on. Alcoholics usually are in denial about many things. I saw all of it in college already, not to mention my own family, and it would certainly be seen in Hollywood.
Overall, I feel bad for Lindsey, and wish her the best recovery. Now's a time when her family and friends -- who obviously like her money -- should be there for her. Maybe they are? I don't really keep track of the girl. But, in any case, she's going to do what she wants. Cliche as it sounds: "No one can help Lindsey until she decides to help herself." Hopefully she wakes up soon for her own sake. She needs to stop throwing herself into the poor situations as well, especially at the beginning of recovery. She also has money, so has more choices and freedom. She can basically avoid anywhere she wants; she certainly avoids showing up to work lately.
Her career: She did have potential at one point, and probably still does -- sober.
One of two things will happen: Lindsey will get better, or she'll be dead. Then, the media train will move on to the next "flavor of the month" for us to start threads on while we neglect valid importances (and I'm guilty sometimes too). That's just the way it works. It's one long running hackneyed gag. The end...

Problem is Lindsay Lohan's woes are a tiny amount of our lives and talking about it doesn't prevent us from having meaningful conversations in other forums and with friends. This whole messageboard is entertainment and meaningless discussion. Unless this message board is your life you should assume you are witnessing a very small part of someone else's existence.

I remembered Drew too, don't know why. Hopefully there's still a chance for Lindsay.

Good post -- which also illustrates how little we really know about what's going on in their lives. Seems like most are extrapolating a lot from the tiny sliver of reality contained in infotainment reporting. I still believe Lohan is working through a normal stage for a 21 year old girl in her situation -- if she doesn't test her limits now, she will either end up doing it later or living a very boring existence. Imagine yourself in her situation -- how would you choose to live?

She sounds like a right cock when she's coked up and drunk.
Thing is she seems genuinely terrified of being out of the public eye. I've heard her say on more than one occasion that "it's when they're not taking pictures of you that you've got to worry" or words to that effect. She seems heading down the Baby Jane road. 5 years from now she'll be on a street corner, cheeks stained with mascara, clutching a DVD of the Parent Trap and begging people to ask her for an autograph.

I agree.
People with problems far worse than her get pushed away and she some how continues to get the sympathy or attention of a certain part of the country. She fucked up, a lot, and if she continues to, she needs to be forgotten.

Halle Berry the day after she won that Oscar. Same with Gwenyth. They both either disappeared or just made shitty movies after winning.

Actually, Lohan has given pretty good performances, and could have improved film after film if she stuck to acting instead of 'acting up'.
With respect to Downey and Barrymore, it's easy for us now to look back at their careers and judge them more favourably because they've evidently overcome their rowdy and tumultuous past.
